Looking for " cheap" offshore boat

I've been out of performance boating for a while due to kids, time, money etc etc. I still don't really have the time or money but I want to try. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun working on boats and boating when I was a kid and I want to give my children the same experience .i had a 24 banana with outboards in the past I might be willing to go that route again, as I am more familiar with outboards. I would also consider a 24x7 with an i/o . Lately I'm even thinking about an outboard 22 velocity . Just seeing if there is anything out there . My budget is low maybe like 3k-5k just to get started. It would be nice to get something that runs , but I know for my price range it probably won't . I've tried to get myself to buy a " regular " more family friendly boat , but I just can't myself to do it . Fishing boats just don't do it for me.

A "cheap" offshore boat will be the most expensive boat you ever owned :D lol

I have seen some old 24/7's in that range that needed some TLC but actually did run. Ya gotta dig deep but I'm sure somethings out there. Saw a decent Scarab 1 go for fifteen hundred on a trailer needing "only" an engine and it did have a drive (Bravo). .

http://www.yachtsalvage.com/Listings/YS150317.htm yep, link works. closed on ebay 300 or so bucks. reserve not met. i know 1k will get it. call brian you can ask what bids are in on it and he-they will tell you. tell him derek with the crownline pointed you at it. love the back seat. ultimate in utilitarian...of course you need to be near boston. you need to post your area, cuz a cheap boat becomes expensive if it is a thousand miles away.

This one was on a post a few days ago.....needs a little TLC. :D

I knew the word cheap and offshore boat should never be used in the same sentence , but I guess it grabbed attention . For some reason I can't view images on my phone , such as the one Level III chaos posted.

How about a 24x7 with an LS swap like the 24 Skater LS conversion thread? Sounds like he found some boating bang for the buck.

Thank you for the info Derek

dereknkathy 04-01-2016 07:28 PM

then I guess you can't pass up a 20 minute drive to mendon to check out the outboard. even if you KNOW you wouldn't touch it with the proverbial 10 foot pole. besides, he has a line on all the damaged goods in your area. has stuff coming in all the time. him or PM Sick Stinger. he scares up perf boats and he is in your area.

You going to Catalina next weekend?

tooslow 04-01-2016 07:59 PM

I just googled " scarab 1" because I couldn't picture one. That is pretty cool looking . I wonder what the bottom is ? Deadrise etc? I like the windshield , good for family boating .

I know where there is 1988 Sea Ray Pachanga 22, seller is asking $6900, I'm sure it could be had for a grand less. Boat runs and looks decent. I won't be able to get you pics until next week as it is on my morning commute in a guys driveway. He just put it out there with the for sale sign about 2 weeks ago. I actually stopped to look at it because growing up my dad owned the exact same boat and it brought back memories. Trailer is rough, tires are dry rotted, gel coat is not bad but some oxidation but easily buffable, cabin seats are a little faded and a few cracks but not terrible. Can't vouch for strIngers or transom as I didn't have an opportunity to get into all that.

This is the actual ScarabI that went for fifteen hundy, granted it was a right place right time cash in hand get it the hell outta my yard kinda deal but it shows the deals are out there. Guy texted me the pic and asked if it was a deal . . . . :D

The ScarabI's were a 22 degree bottom, run fast but rough. Slick lil boat though.

You can find a decent Four Winns Liberator 211 for $6000

zz28zz 04-06-2016 09:32 PM

Chaparral 235 XLC is a great family boat in that price range if you can find one in good shape. I had one for many years.

The original Nova 250's if you can find one in decent shape, can go thru some water.

SCOPE Spring Fling. Most likely going to be rained out though. :(

Unlimited jd 04-07-2016 08:14 PM

My brother in law has a 24 Baja with a 330 and bravo 1 in south eastern mass. Thinking he's looking to get around 6k I'll point him towards this thread

There is no spring fling this year. I will be there but at Emerald Bay with the cub scouts!

Tossing out 6K+ boats to this guy is senseless. When using the word "maybe" followed by 3K-5K. Com'on. This is Offshore Only isn't it?

tooslow 04-08-2016 11:57 AM

Rotax is probably right , I wouldn't go to 6k unless I really liked something . I'm not desperate to get out on the ocean , my father has a boat I can use any time . I just want to find a project I guess , but something I will like after dumping time and money into it. Just curious, what does the " This is offshore only isn't it? " part mean?
