Anytime we have white caps they come from the same direction and the dock was up-wind of the boat so it did most of the "holding" of the boat.

Water depth was never an issue here but it is something to keep in mind.

Another option for this to avoid the sliding buckets is a flat piece of steel. We have a 2'x4' inch and a half plate of steel with holes water jet in it. Drop it on the bottom, in a couple of days it is completely burried and it is not moving. I got it for $40 from a fab shop and it was scrap. Never had it move or drag in years.
