What is the best place to mount transducer on Cat?
 

I am trying to figure out the best place to mount a transducer on a 30' Spectre Cat. I want to use an internal transducer. I don't want anything hanging off the back of the boat. I understand they don't work very good shooting through a core hull. Where is everyone mounting them on their Cats?

I guess you dont want to punch a hole in the hull and run a thru hull, instead of a look thru hull transducer?

Its best you post up some pics of the boat and your girlfriend's bottoms... then we'll tell you where and how to mount them...rm

I really don't think you will be able to get any accurate readings at speed due to the steps in a cat aerating the wet surface even if you mount the transducer on the outside layer of glass with core removed.

You think even the very rearward part of the hull next to the transom wouldnt work? Thats where i would mount it.

Try calling skater or one of the other cat builders... id be more comfortable cutting a hole in the coring back there too as that entire area is very strong... rm

I talked to Jay Pilini and he said the bottom is cored and would have to cut a portion out and epoxy it in. I am not sure I want to do that. I am going to look at possibilities of mounting on the transom. With all the steps in the hull I doubt I would get a reading at speed like everyone has said. I may just not even worry about a transducer. The new Garmin I am installing has a pretty neat 3D down view, so that is the reason for the transducer.

We are on our 3rd different way of mounting a transducer. This time DCB did a true thru-hull with a brass fitting. I'll still lose depth readings probably above 35-45 mph but that's also what gps/charts are for.

Do you have a picture of the brass fitting?

Sorry I didn't take a pic while out there...i'm still waiting for a few things to be finished and have them dial the boat in completely before I bring it back east.

I researched and thought the same scenario thru when rigging my Skater. Settled for Garmin 7610's "Fish Eye View" for depths!
