First 188th street, then Shooters and now the Elbo Room?

A Fort Lauderdale retail portfolio that includes the beach’s landmark Elbo Room bar has hit the market with an asking price of $7.75 million, real estate website therealdeal.com reported Thursday.

The listing, announced by brokerage Marcus & Millichap, includes three adjoining retail buildings at 3001 E. Las Olas Blvd. Together they total about 10,440 square feet, so their asking price breaks down to about $742 per square foot.

The Elbo Room, a rowdy cash-only bar across the street from the ocean, opened before World War II and was featured in the classic movie “Where the Boys Are.

That would be a travesty to have the iconic Elbow Room disappear. My first stop anytime I land in Fort Lauderdale. Set the mood.

The glitch for all of these older places is lack of parking. You almost have to tear everything down, build a parking garage then build whatever you intended. Most places today couldn't be built the way they are due to current building codes, number of parking spaces/handicapped spaces, handicapped bathrooms, etc.

If someone has 7 million to spend then collecting cash at the local hangout bar isn't going to give them the best rate of return!

Southport is still there but the marina next door (formerly Sundance) has been cleared out and is slated to be a hotel.

Current owner of Southport was a busboy there 30 years ago so safe to say he isn't letting that place go anywhere anytime soon!

----The Southport is my favorite bar/restraunt on earth. Surprising?,,,,yes, but I have had so many good times there (and before when it was T Twists) That Id fly down there for lunch just for the peal-and eat shrimp...Oh,,, and the libations.......Of course. Love that place and always will..........Bill S

I heard Bahia Cabana is coming down either this year or next. The new fire station which is right next door and was just built is also coming down. If I remember right condo's are being built there.
