Top speed on 2000 Outlaw 25 496HO

Just bought a 2000 Outlaw 25 with a 496 HO. I had read a lot about the boat before and have seen everywhere this boat does 65+ mph without any mods. Mine however, does about 61-62 with a best ever of 62.6 on GPS. The prop being used is a 4 blade Bravo 1 26P Stainless Steel.

At WOT, the engine runs at 4800 rpm.

Any input from anyone with experience with this boat will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Haven't owned a 25OL but I think a 26P Brovo 1 prop is a bit tall for the 496HO. You should be closer to 5000 rpm at WOT. My last boat was 25 Citation with a 496HO and before the CMI elbow top headers it had a 22P Bravo 1 prop spinning at 5000 rpm. After the headers I spun a labbed 24P Bravo 1 at 5000 - 5050 rpm. I was experimenting with a 26P Bravo 1 right before I sold the boat and it was just too much prop for that engine with a 1.50 Bravo X.

Your close tho at 4800 rpm so maybe some lab work on that prop can get you there.

I have a 2003 25 outlaw with the same engine. It has the stock 3 blade prop. I'm not sure of the pitch, think it's 23. Boat runs in the high 60's, around 68 in good conditions. Could be your prop.

Fastest top end speed will be with a Mirage Plus prop. You'll need a stock 23" or maybe a well labbed 25". It should run 66-68 or so then.
Cruise speed and planing will suffer though.

Thank you guys I was in the blind there. I will shop for a 3 blade 23P mirage plus I think!

Hey Outlaw511 could you check th part number on your original prop? Tx

I would try to find a 24p Bravo 1. Should run 64-65 and have great cruise characteristics.

I read that 1 pitch translates into 200 rpm and so if I run at 4800 rpm with a pitch 26 going down to a 23 would raise the rpm at wot by 600 and bring me up to 5400?? But since I am told that a 3 blade 23 is the stock prop it confuses me a little bit

You'll probably never get to 5400, rev limiter on a stocker is 5150rpm, I believe. That 200rpm/1" pitch is a general rule of thumb, not law. Cup, rake, blade surface and diameter all come into play.

Bravo props are a little short on pitch compared to most other props. They are equal to a prop with 1"-2" less pitch generally.
