Black Thunder - 46'
I seen a very nice black thunder 46' at the Metro beach boat show, I am casually thinking about it maybe it would be my next boat. I think it was 310K But it only had twin 500 EFI's I am thinking this boat would need more power, I would not be satisfied unless it was able to get into the 80's. Anyone with experience with this type of boat? It is the raised deck style and about 14,000 Lbs with a 9' +- beam

43' for sale
Mike Nichols in NC, has a 1997 -- 43' for sale its got 525merc in it, and runs about 80mph its for sale at 160,000 but you could still aford to put bigger power in it for that price. And i would do a trade on the 525 that were in it

Thanks for the info!
I talked to a John Gardner while I was there, He did not indicate a speed But I figured it would be in the 70's. I figure whippled 500's would be the way to go but on that size boat I bet the drives would be a constant problem. Lucky I have a couple of IMCO SC Extremes I can use. I really like the extended cockpit, This is where you spend all your time and the extra room and bolsters would be great. Paint was by Mitcher T (sp?) and looks awesome.

Hi Ray,
For the past couple of years I've captained the demo Black Thunders at the Miami Boat show. We only use GPS speeds because it makes no sense to BS customers.
The 46' with the extended cockpit and twin 575 Mercs will run 78 MPH fully laden with fuel and 4 passengers. With a light load of fuel and two passengers, she'll touch 80 MPH.
I have not tested one with twin 500 efi's.
If you find yourself in South Florida anytime, call me and I'll be happy to take you for a ride in my 43' Black Thunder. Virtually identical to the 46' except for the swim platform length and bow rise.
I do not work for Black Thunder, just a satisfied customer.
Thanks,
Steve

Thanks Steve, they look like really well built boats. I would expect the ride would be smooth with a 46, My 38' is a little rough at times for the wife, Plus she really liked the BT too. Thats always a plus++++. I am not going to FLA until April, Camping trip to St. Augustine. Maybe it would work out and I will get in touch. Thanks again.
