I don't think anyone said it was, pretty sure the thread title say CUBA.

so why say he got issues w US /// is all // merely agreeing w guy saying boat appears to be under protection in CUBA

I have no opinion on the accuracy of the information, but the German articles written on it and the interviews with the owner all state the US restrictions combined with the unwillingness of shipping companies to get involved are the issue.

I'm calling BS.
Outside of the US, its totally different, Cuba isn't as bad as the media portrays them here. People who are non-US passport holders have been coming and going for years. Many shipping companies can get in there no problem, as long as its not a US flagged vessel. There's more to this situation than we are hearing.

100% agree......and why "US-Cuba" record in the first place? Plenty of others to crush (Miami to Bimini, Key West to Mexico).......this guy built a boat admired by many and ran a race nobody cared about. It still doesnt' change the fact I have to go to work today! :evilb:

Think about it, nothing adds up. If the boat was worth it, he would have had it recovered by now. Or he doesn't have the money he used to have because he spends it like this!?

So-called wealthy guy builds bad-ass boat. One of a kind. Then does a US-Cuba race against himself, sets new world record for himself, a record that nobody else cares about. Was their any "real" news coverage?

I'm sure his boat is/was insured to cover his investment, and even for this "so-called" event (just in case). So what if the boat was damaged? The costs to recover and etc could be very high, so he can easily blame it on Cuba, call his Allstate guy, give him a story that cannot be verified... and he comes out ahead. How else do you get your $$$$ out of a boat that has 10x more $$$ invested than its can be sold for?

I could be wrong but I think a lot of these Big players are self insured as some things nobody will cover.

Perspective.... If I remember right this guy and his family are loaded.

I don't believe somebody would abandon something like that with the amount of investment.
No matter how much money a person has, the value of that boat could not be left to rot. Actually, the wealthier a person is, the more "conscious" they get about their money. Maybe not back in the day, but today, yes.
