Single Engine with no power? Whats out there?
Well, after some issues with my boat this year. It's got me thinking about upgrading. What is available out there, that's solid in the 24-29ft range? -- single engine. Not interested in twins for a variety of reasons. Having the drive would be nice, but not required.
I have mild 502 to use as needed, I'm not opposed to it already having power if the price is right. I am not looking for a rotted out boat that needs a ton a of work, but am willing to do some work for sure. Everything I can find is garbage... Not looking to spend more than about 10-15k, so I know that limits the market, and maybe why I can only find garbage. Or maybe I'm looking to new. I'm open to older boats I suppose. |
Seems like slim pickin's this time of yr. Less than 600 boats for sale here on OSO. I've seen that well over 1000 before. There was a 24 Pantera on here a few weeks ago. Looked pretty rough though, ex race boat.

I can't help thinking about a Formula 242, but it's like freaking rolling the dice with rot on the older ones. You can pick those up all day long for less than 15k in "good" shape....
|
Saw this on CL and sent it to a friend with a 540, but he hates red... Might not be a bad deal if the hull is solid.
24 foot Speed boat -NEED GONE- $5000 http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/boa/5566581205.html |
Interesting, I've never heard of it before, but looks fairly nice actually.
Wonder if that drive would live with 550hp in front of it....or if it a similar pattern to a bravo.... |

See posts 5 and 6- http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...outdrives.html Edit- GM went to center bolt valve covers in 1987, my memory had me convinced it was later, so that drive could be either version. As for the hull, I had the center console version, it's basically a Pantera/P&D splash, formerly made buy a guy in Miami. It's no Pantera, but you're not paying a Pantera price, either. Glass work was ok, some of them have some hook in the hull, and a few have happy chines. Ya know, chines that kinda wave as you walk down the boat. |

I'm guessing it depends on whether that's a pre-1990 or post-1990 drive. Just guessing by looking at the valve covers on that motor, I'm thinking it's post-1990 if the drive and engine came as a combo.

the outdrive is Volvo 270 outdrive painted black and the engine is an OMC 1990 model

There's a SBC/Alpha 24' Cheetah in Ohio on CL for $8500, a 24 Outlaw 502/B3 in Albion MI for $13,500 on CL.
Cheetah, Python, Pantera, Aero, P&D, Lorequin, Lancer, Jaws, Rocket, Aggressor as keywords on the CL search will end up turning something up that you like eventually. |
Excalibur 24', TRS drive, under $3k...
Excalibur 24' 1979 $2750 http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/boa/5609713935.html |
I have a 1999 29 Fountain Fever, former race boat without a motor for $20K on a nice trailer. Great boat.

Check this thread....
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...-steering.html Why nobody jumped on this Powerplay quickly is a mystery to me. You may be lucky, may still be available. RR |

http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/27031 Well not really but it is March 2014. Love that site, great for research but they just don't clear their old ads. RR |
Just spoke with the guy about the PowerPlay, ironically the boat came from Michigan. Depending on what I find out today about my boat, should be able to make something happen. Thanks again for the heads up rak rua!

I have been kicking around the idea of selling my 1996 24 Outlaw. Right now the motor is out. I might want to much but that is because I know what i spent to get it here. I would take $15,000 with no motor. Include exhaust everything. Bravo 1 with maybe 50 hrs, 280 kplanes, dual hydraulic steering to helm. Newer interior, 4-12 kicker subs, Wetsounds 6.5's. Three kicker amps. Might even have a prop for that power level.

Well, there's no saltwater in Kansas... I mean the PowerPlay is from Michigan, but it's a saltwater boat now, so if you listen to the masses, it's clearly going to wither and blow away like dandelion fuzz any second now! LOL
That would be a tough decision. The Outlaw has the bigger cabin and more recent graphics, but man, that PowerPlay is a nice ride, too, and they're put together well. |

Well, I haven't been pushing to sell it. But for $8K + you can't go wrong. :) Everything works just fine. Floor is prepped for bolsters but never got around to it. If the Infinity is $8k+ and the PP 15K plus. lol and same year.. I can do a lot of graphics for $7k..and have a running boat. No need to fork up a bunch for motor and drive. Plus mine have a nice windshield and a cuddy. Depend on what some one wants.
Can you update an add on their site to make it look like a current ad? Seeing the date listed might discourage potential buyers. Good luck and again, sorry for any negative publicity or misunderstanding. I'll remove the post (and this one) if you want. RR |
:) It's ok rak. Nothing wrong with constructive comments. I guess I should renew the add making it more of a current listing. I'll get to it. No need to remove, but thanks.

Thanks guys, I've kinda got my eye on that powerplay, just waiting to hear about my boat. The guy was supposed to come see it yesterday and didn't make it to my marina. Need to decide in the next few days what I am doing. I appreciate all of the offers!
That Baja has me intrigued as well...damn... |
It appears my attempt on that PowerPlay has failed...Made offer, arranged shipping/survey etc., have not heard....maybe I insulted the guy....
