Cabin size
Hi all. Can you stand up in the cabins of boats like a 38 special? I've never seen a boat like that in person. Or boats of the size that you all have. Question is mostly curiosity.
Thank you Mark |
I could stand up just fine in my Sonic 358

They look really cool. My goal is to have something like that someday. Already started saving my $$$$$. Might not get there. But ya gotta have dreams.

i had a 38 Donzi ZX and yeah you could stand up no prob, plenty of head room. My 38 Scarab however . . . . not so much but still plenty of room and way more comfortable to overnight in.

The better question is how tall are you?
I just bought a 380 Powerquest and it has about the most cabin room I have seen in a 38 footer. Friend just bought a 382 Formula and for how close in size the boats are with them sitting side by side on the trailers, my Powerquest is vastly larger and deeper inside. I have 5'10" headroom so me being 6'2" tall, I can't quite stand up but can move around extremely freely. Far more freely than I can in the Formula. Only TRUE stand up powerboat is a Black Thunder. That is my dream boat and will be the only thing I sell my PQ for. What are your speed goals? You may want to look at a Fountain 38' Express Cruiser as well. |

Thats a very very nice boat!!! Any chance you could post pics? If a boat like the ones you all have showed up in my area. Traffic would stop. It would take u 3 hours to launch it because of the questions and attention it would get.
Thank you Mark Padraig |

^ haha, I could do jumping jacks in most of the boats listed here.

Most "go-fast" boats only have their tallest point to stand, right at midship, just forward of the helm.
The most telling factor to give you a perspective of what's in the cabin is to look at how much profile the boat has ABOVE the rub rail. The more "hump", the more headroom. Some boats with MASSIVE headroom througout the cabin: 38' Fountain Express Cruiser 38' Fountain Sport Cruiser 43' Black Thunder 46' Black Thunder Others that have quite a bit of headroom to permit standing in certain places also pending your height: 38' Powerplay 38' Sonic 35' Sonic 38' Donzi ZX (not the ZR models) 33' Donzi ZX 37' Active Thunder 33' Active Thunder |
I also have a PowerQuest 380 Avenger. Lots of room. At 6'-1", I can't stand, but can walk around with my head tipped.

The Sonic 358 and 386 are 6' in head room, that said I am 5'7" so I fit with ease.

40 Hustler Fiore is nice and roomy and a fast hull that handles the rough water very well. Deep and wide. lots of room all around. almost in the same ballpark as the Black Thunder but a faster hull.
I had one for a long time, if you ever get the chance to get in one, walk around, ride in one, you will be impressed. The speed will impress almost anyone especially for the size of the boat! |
stand up in my 45 plus some!

Something I've been curious about and I think I have a sense of what the answer will be: On this sublist, what does the order look like of the fastest under a given power package? Some of these big comfy boats need a hell of a lot of power to run, but others seem to do pretty well without crazy power.
BUT that all matters on options. The top speed of a 37AT can swing 6-8mph based on prop choice, drive choice, vintage, option, and load. |
43 Nor-Tech has serious headroom as well.
