Awful news. Godspeed to those souls. Terrible to lose people from our small community of performance boaters, and yet another black mark on the reputation of our sport. Reading the comments on the news articles is infuriating.

As it was mentioned no Life Jackets on and high rate of speed. I have no idea if these statements are 100 % true. Sorry to have to bring this up. Not to sound or make matters worse - I just talked about this **** Life jackets and kill lanyards**** in another thread up here and still lost why boaters do not wear them, - Along with how many every time they go out check that your kill switch works properly plus attach your lanyard. No one commented about what I posted. IMO any boat 65 mph or over, everyone should have jackets on. Sorry for the comments but I am firm believer in this. Again sorry to bring this up and very sorry about this tragedy. |

We followed these folks for quite some time at LOTO this past August while admiring his boat and he was absolutely a safe traveler on the water. Jumping to conclusions about what happened doesn't help. So sorry for their family and friends. |

I think this is the best time to talk about things like Lifejackets. Lessons like this are written in blood and the pain needs to be real for people to take it seriously. I don't think its disrespectful to learn from accidents, in fact I think the opposite. If I were to die in a way that could have been avoided I would want people to learn form my mistakes. Crashes like this are absolutely horrible and as sad as can be. But we need to learn from them. Year after year there are deadly accidents at boat events and still I see so many people moving fast in boats without simple life saving devices. So I second Jrider, Please Please wear life jackets out there. So many reasons why they help. at a minimum it could make the recovery easier. RIP....... Mike |
Nate, I apologize if I offend or make matters worse.
I did not know these people, I am sure its easier for me to be disconnected from the feelings that people are going thru. I am a pilot and spend a lot of time on crash forums so I am sure that has also desensitized me, again sorry. I just go right into understand what happened mode and try to learn from it. I also have no idea what happened and for all I know they had life vest on. I know from experience that when details and facts come out its always very different that we thought in the beginning. I'd suggest that, once more details are known, a second thread be opened for lessons learned. As I recall we have done this in the past on OSO and it has allowed for both respect to the deceased and their friends / family and for a fruitful discussion about what can be done to avoid such incidents in the future.

We all respect our boats and the way we operate them but the near impossible can still happen. It doesn't matter how far removed you are from this tragedy, it still hurts to read about it.
Life is so fragile, sincere condolences to everyone who is affected by this loss. Jon. |
