Tullio Abbate

What can anyone tell me about Tullio Abbate boats made in Italy
I may look at a 1984 42' with twin 3208 Cats
Anyone either present or past owners any comments on these boats
Transom, Stringer, Hull rot in older models.
Handling
Performance
Upkeep of hull
etc.

Thx
I boat on the Great Lakes, Mainly the Cdn side.

Must be somebody out there globally that has experience with these boats.

Are you looking at the one at Sima? If so, there are plenty of these still running around on the Med. The model was just a variation on his basic runabout that were popular for use on Italian lakes, albeit with a cabin added. Any competent surveyor should give you an idea of basic hull/engines condition.

The one I am looking at has CAT Diesels.
I looked at the ad for the one at Sima also and may go have a look at it.

Better CAT than the Isotta Fraschini diesels they installed in Europe, although a few came with Volvo power.

A buddy of mine owns the gas one. Big blocks & TR Drives. He is located about 5 miles West of where the SBI Mentor race will be held at the end of August. May be a good time for a road trip!

Your SH has a pretty similar running surface to the 42 Abbate, no? but I'd guess he has a better overnighting cabin?

If I was looking for an Abbate I'd probably prefer one by Bruno.

Who or what is Bruno?
I talked to the broker at SIMA yesterday about the one in Eastlake.
He is in Germany right now and will get back to me after I return from my cottage a week monday

Younger brother of Tullio. Tullio inherited father's boatyard, Bruno opened his own nearby. Sold as http://www.primatist.it/inglese/index.asp

TheRush- What is the performance like on your buddy's TA? i.e cruising speed, top speed. Fuel consumption is not a real big issue for me on Lake Ontario as the number of hours put on a boat in a season here is about 50. How does it handle in 2 - 3 footers or more?
