I don't know about the history very much, But we have a 2002 280 w/a 496HO. If it has the same Steve Stepp hull design, You'll love the way it handles. If the boat is not local and want a ride in a newer model. Let me know.

They are a fast hull. a guy in my area has one with 800's. Seems to be holding up well for a late 80's boat.
When we went for a ride it was a real solid boat. i've always liked the lines of it...except for the squared off windshield.

From personal experience: check the stingers carefully for hidden rot!! Especially under the engines. BTDT

JJ was right I did have one. And I really enjoyed it!! The one I had was a 1987 that I (along with the help of friends) completely restored. Inculding Interior, Motor's, Drives and Paint. It had 454's with Bravo drives and ran about 76mph, You can trim them enough to get really light and should be driven carefully driven until you get the hang of it (just like all Velocity's) The bottom on my 1987 was straight and true just like on my 1985 Project boat however I once owned a 1990 23ft that has some blisters. I never had any trouble with Rot in the stringers, I did however have to replace the floor over the Gas Tank due to rot.

I have always heard they are fast boats because they are usually a little lighter and because of the Steve Stepp hull (it was the first Offshore V-Hull to break the 100mph mark!) Ask Steve Miklos he races the Vortec Extreme about his, he broke his into a couple of pieces and had a chunk laying beside his house when we were down there in 1999.

Ask the guy's on the Velocity page on this site!! They will have tons of info for ya!!

All in all, If you can pick it up pretty cheap it could be a Great Boat that would be quick for it's size and money!!
