Going from lake boat to offshore boat
Hi, long time lurker, first post in ages here.
Presently I run a 26' Daytona in havasu, but am sick of the drive and the heat, I'm too old to ski/wakeboard, so looking to go offshore. If the Daytona had closed cooling, I might give it a shot, but with aluminum heads, I'm thinking not a good idea, not to mention , a steel trailer.
I'm thinking I need a 38' top gun type boat, seems that Cigarette comes with a price , just because of the name, I feel I need twin big blocks, I don't need to go 125 mph as I can now, I just want to be safe from big waves.
Suggestions?
I would be going in the pacific out of Newport or sunset launch near seal beach.

I saw Sabre Powerboats at the Miami Boat Show, they seem to be very capable offshore machines, and also have a good following

Happy to try to meet up with you when you are getting your sea legs and go for a run, I only have a 28ft boat, but I go from Marina Del Rey to San Diego and Catalina all the time.
That Daytona will beat you like a red headed stepchild in the afternoon + open cooling = don't even do it.
Im a lavey guy and have been since 91, so Id steer you toward the 39 Evo vs some east coast rig, but at 38 + feet you have lots of choices.

I'm in Wildomar and run out of Dana. Newport takes too damned long to get out of the harbor!
Like mentioned, what is your budget? Still a lot of good deals out there. As a former Cigarette owner, they will always be my number 1 choice (see what I did there?
) but there are many other great boats to run in the ocean.
UD is right about your Daytona, you won't be happy most days. I have been out there when it was flat as glass but those days are infrequent. One to three's are most common and of course can often be bigger.

Looking at this beast http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/35445, but damn, it's old, but not being a dr. Or a lawyer , this may be how old it's gotta be, I've still got 35 years on it tho, so I guess it's not that old,,,,lol
