The 525 is closed and aluminum heads but most others are iron headed. Flush with salt away and you should be fine. I'd say ride in some of the boats. Any reason you're thinking just sunny or sonic? What about donzi, fountain again, AT? Closed cooling is basically 525s or 496s. Naturally 2 very different animals. Unless you add it to whatever you buy. For Atlantic I'd be looking in the 35 models meaning 33 AT, 35 fountain, 35 donzi, 358 sonic. Black motors will put all of them in low to mid 70s. Blue motors in the 80s. All better Atlantic boats than the 31 sonic or 32 sunny

Comparing a 35' anything to a 31 Sonic or 32' Sunny is like comparing apples to peanuts. You can't compare unequal size/lengths. You know better than that. However, comparing like for like 30-32' boats... I've ran with all the mfgs you have listed and I have never had a problem running with or running ahead. Time and time again I've received comments on how flat my boat runs in the rough. That includes the boat in the air or trimming down and cutting the water.

I'm taking into consideration that he wants a ~32' boat that runs in the 80s. Not many black motor boats can do that.

I would think budget is the deciding factor. If he can stretch to a 33' AT I would be the last one trying to argue ride quality. The reality is a 33' AT has nearly 2' more running surface than a Sunny or Sonic. But I suppose that's why you drew in a 35' Fountain or Donzi in that compare.

notice I even upped it to a 358 sonic. Ocean running primarily. The extra couple feet will help and add more space to boat.
