When you turn the key, listen carefully to the hour meter, you will here a little click every 10th of an hour. |

Check the scan for the engine number, make sure it is the engine that is in the boat. Simple. RR |

The hour meter WILL record hours with just the key on, the motor WILL NOT. With that said, all the boats I've owned had the stereo wired hot, so no need to turn the key on to use the stereo.

Engine numbers are sometimes hard to find, let alone photograph. He should also have some registration, coast guard documentation or even insurance papers that show the engine number. If you're agreeing a sale 'unseen' make sure it is written on the contract, "subject to and conditional upon verification of engine number".
You should have no problem, all sounds genuine to me, in which case he will understand your cautious nature. Good luck! RR |

Don't forget, with engine hour scans, as I understand it, you can have the scan reset back to zero for the scan of rev range usage but the total hours cannot be reset. (This applies to Verados and I assume it also applies to inboards).

I have my truck driver delivering steel 1/2 hour away from there on September 6 and he'll have some time to kill. If you don't make a deal and are still interested then let me know and i'll have him stop over for a look. He's not a boat guy but he is a mechanical guy.
