It does suck. But not as much as having to also replace an engine after 15 hours.....

The paint repair will pale in comparison.

2900 for a touch up on that boat or any boat for that matter is a bargain..Beautiful boat.

Does our insurance cover damage to another boat?

It should provided you haven't given them a reason to take your money and deny your claim

+1. When I read this first thing I thought of was when your boat got hit and how much the bids to fix it came in at. $2900 is hella fair for something that size.

It is appalling that a fellow boater would do this and than have the audacity to question the price to fix. I'd out the POS so everyone else knows who to avoid parking next to.

Boat looks great!!!

Been thinking the same thing while watching this thread.

Sorry, I am not denying that my boat did the scratch and I did agree to take care of it. My issue is that it is not a $2900 repair. I did not expect to
have to take out an equity line out on my house to do so.

Everyone in the industry knows that a chip or a nick starts out the size of a pea, but by the time you sand it, its the size of a grapefruit, by the time you prime it its the size of a basketball, by the time you blend it, its the size of a beach ball, by the time you clear it to blend its bigger than that... Hence the quote above, he damaged a custom boat (lambo) not a gelcoated/painted generic boat (prius)

If the guy has to take out an HELOC to pay $2900 he shouldn't be boating!

If WFM has this in writing then seems like a pretty easy small claims court deal. I know the repair is already done but if you have any photos of the scratch, take them to a couple other custom paint shops and get estimates. I'll bet they will be a lot higher. Go to court with the scratcher's documented admition of guilt and stated responsibility and estimates and it should be a slam dunk.
