Sydways, thats the exact tire I put on all my trucks, the 2002 Duramax just got the 285 75-r-16 AT Im good for at least 35k with my application, and they look just as good as the big names at 2/3 the cost.:D
|

Obnoxus,
You cannot go wrong with BFG All Terrain KOs. I am going to try Cooper I think, just because I like to be different. Aside from the stickershock, the BFG is awesome. |

If you want the best offroad/load range tire, check out Interco's TRXUS Mud terrains (also known as Super Swamper Trxus)
They are availible in load range D and keep up the super swamper reputation off-road. Real world: A buddy put them on his 1/2 ton Z71 and after 10k miles, he still loves em! He got them at a great price (about 30 bucks a tire less than the BFG's) If you want a real truck tire, This is it!! |

These are the Goodyears I had HORRIBLE and SCARY ride and handling with:

Those Goodyears were E rated, and the problem with the awful handling was the tall lugs, and non-interlocking lugs. Sorry, those Interco's look mighty scary to me for handling, especially towing significant weight.
Here are the BFG All Terrain KO's. Mighty fine tire! |
I looked up Light Truck History , yesterday at Work.. Our best selling LT Tires were,,,,
BFG KO Michelin LTX M/S GY RTS Firestone Steeltex Mama has Michelin's on her Expdition and LOVES Them |
SAME HERE !!!! scary handling on th GY RT/S,,, I has Firestone Steltex,,, but the rs5 or whatever it was,,,,,terrible traction,,, TIRERACKS website calls this " a great fronttire for dually applicatins " !!!!!!! GOOD JOB GM !!!!! ,,, not the A/T tire,,, I would go with that one if I go back to Firestone,,, I am kinda leaning toward the Michelin M/S right now,,,, like I said at this point I dont care about cost or treat life, I want stable handling
I also dont need the offroad aggressivness,,,,,,I barely take it out in the snow, It maily sleeps with the boat all winter !!!!! |
Been following this thread, since I'm getting close to needing tires on my Excursion. What suprised me was all the praise for the BFG's. Is the All Terrain KO different than the All Terrain they've always made? Years ago I had a couple sets of the BFG's in 33" and 35", and they sucked. They always wore uneven and bad, no matter how often I had aligmnents and rotated them.
Is this a new, improved version? All I want in my new tires is quiet. I used to drive a truck with 36" Swampers for my daily driver, and I think I still have that sound stuck in the back of my brain....Never again. Been leaing towards just going with a new set of Steeltex, only in the next bigger size. I've been pretty happy with them so far. (38,000 miles.) |
Rainmn,
The BFG A/T KOs are a new and improved version. I had them before, and was very pleased. I am going to try the Coopers this time; I think. We will see how everything goes. |
Sydwayz, you will like the Coopers, I pay 110.00 for the 285 -75- R16 includes rotation every 5k miles and free flat repair. good luck:D
|
Hey Sydwayz, I have the BFGs on my truck and they ride great. And i havent had any problems out of them. just my 2 cents.
|
I think you should put on the SUPER SWAMPERS TSL as long as you don't mind the noise or the bouncing for the first 10 miles when there cold. I had a set of 39.5's on my old F350 but my old body could not take it these day's. I have always used and liked the goodyear ats for my tow trucks.
|
The truck is going to stay stock height for now. They say it is a pain to lift it with the Auto 4WD option transfer case. I am going with wheels slightly wider than stock, and same diameter.
www.wheelpros.com has a *****en wheel out that I want, but the chrome ones are on back order because of the dock strikes in CA. I will hold off on these until I lift. |
NITTO TIRES
BRIAN I BOUGHT 2 SETS IN ONE DAY OF NITTO GRAPPLERS ONE FOR A TAHOE AND ONE A SURBURBAN 2500 10 PLY AND TOOK THEM BOTH BACK THE NEXT DAY !!! EVEN WROTE TO NITTO ABOUT HOW BAD THEY ARE
MICH AND T/A'S ARE HARD TO BEAT ,I THOUGHT THE NITTO'S WERE COOL AND TOUGH THEY WERE JUNK ! I PUT ON LTX ON THE SURBURBAN 10 PLY AND REGULAR LTX ON THE TAHOE ,,,THERE GREAAAAAT :D :D :D |
I have all of my mods done now with the exception of front windows tinted. The wheels, tires, and airbags, and everything else are all installed. I am VERY, VERY, HAPPY with the Cooper Discoverer AT. They are quiet; handle fantastic, look great, and are not so hard that they spin all the time at stoplights and on on paintstripes.
JASSMAN, thank you for pointing me in this direction! |
FINALLY have pics.
