Wet Boat (stringer) Alternative
 

Hey was watching ShipShape TV and they had this guy on that would use a vaccum pump I think to suck out all the moisture in your stringers. www.dryboat.com Anybody ever use it they say its about the 25% of the cost of replacing the stringers. I assume it can be used on transoms as well.

So what do you do about the "dry" hay that is left behind after the boat is dried out? Do they have screws that adhere to hay and soft wood? I call snake oil.

Nice process. Getting rid of the water is one thing and as long as there is no rot in the core you should be good to go to re seal. But if there is a rot in a Transom core and you pull the water out, how do you repair that with out re coring the transom?

Wonder when someone will come out with something like bath fitters for a boat. LOL.

There was a guy that was drilling small holes and in the wet areas and hooking vacuums up to the m with plastic much like vacuum bagging to dry out boats -- when he was done he would fill the tiny hole with resin and put a vinyl stripe over the row of holes...he said that it would dry them out to good as new! ---- I agree with above ---that your are left with dust in between the fiberglass with a fraction of the strength -- of course he didn't care --had done it to a bunch of boats he said.... BTW he was a retired policemen

He would sell the boats as surveyed with dry moisture readings... Some of these boats are out there and were offshores.

This system should work getting moisture out of a non wood construction hull.

Water does not always mean there is rot. Freshwater is worser than saltwater. Crappy pine is worser than say oak. BTW You can treat the wood after drying with glycol and nothing will live in it. There are tons of boats out there with zero structural wood left in the stringers....they usually seem to float

I did that once on a transom, having many holes drilled and have the moisture sucked like a vacuum baged process, plugged for OVER a week and it did not really changed the moisture reading. Spent like 1200 or 1500$ to learn it... So i changed the transom and problem was REALLY solved!
