Are there no lights or markers at the ends of the jetty's?
|
The jetty was there, if you can't see it then you're probably not paying enough attention, traveling too fast or don't know where you're going. These things can happen to a boater day or night and it's operator error. Not in any way trying to ignore the tragic loss of life but hope others can learn from it. Accidents happen very easily and far too often. Most accidents could be avoided with a little more care. Thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones. |
I agree that ultimately it is operator error, but really how hard is it to light the damn thing? We have the same issue with a jetty in long island that has taken a decent amount of lives, and I have heard that they will not consider lighting it because the second they do, they are admitting guilt and opening the door for lawsuits from old accidents. |

All the lights in the world will still blend in with the shore lights. Drive slow after dark. There are buoys also that you don't want to hit.
Returning in, lights would blend with shore lights. But keep in mind Govt Cut is where cruise ships go in/out daily. This is a huge, deep inlet. That being said, they were celebrating a birthday and were 30+ miles from home running outside up to Hillsboro at 930 at night. |
This is a live Govt. Cut camera. Look at it during the day (rewind the feed) and then look at it at night.

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/loc...229517334.html You can’t run at night with the cockpit lit up with alll the LED **** and expect to see. Add SoBe partying and a run out the inlet. Sad as it is, you can’t blame the cut. |
