I never knew about this network of buoys that supply real time data and some have high def cameras even. You can also obtain data from a specific buoy by texting!
This is the link to the world wide network of data buoys, from this site you can click on your region, such as Eastern Great Lakes, which is all the Great Lakes except Superior. http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/ . This is a link to a new buoy off Cleveland that has a camera, it looks rough and cold out there: http://greatlakesbuoys.org/station_p...?station=45169 Anyway I thought that these are really cool navigation aids.

Glad to say that my alma mater, Michigan Tech has a hand in deploying and maintaining those.
