Default Question:towing a boat with outboards

I’m going to be towing a boat with outboards. Will they need to be tied off with something? I recall seeing an outboard race boat that had a bungee cord or something similar to it wrapped a few times around each outboard and also connecting them together. I would guess that this would be to prevent them from swaying back and forth. Is there more to it?

Those bungee cords you saw were actually part of the race rigging. They are there to absorb the shock of re-entry while racing.

Anytime you tow a boat you always should try to tiedown/ stabilize the drives and/or motors. It is better than just leaving them loose to flop around while on the road.

yup if you ever watch a outboard boat running hard you will see the engine bouncing around on the transom. The cords help hold it MUCH more stable. It is like if you are climbing a ladder by yourself and it is bouncing. Then you have some one push on it... it will not bounce.
