maybe a level sensor that goes off when the bow gets too high, then it ejects like a F16 capsule. Then a shoot jacket would help. Drag boat guys run an ejectable capsule.

I talked to Pete today and he is already coming up with a solution In the form of a parachute that will deploy when the Bow reaches a certain angle so the boat will not be able to take flight

It's not ejectable, it separates from the hull. The occupant is still moving at the same speed as he was when he departed the hull.

Tunnel Pressure Relief System
That would be my first approach as an engineer who likes to keep things simple as possible. To determine the effectiveness of such a system would obviously require analysis and test data. A big concern of mine is that if a system allowed the bow to rise too high, the system could be successful in bringing the bow down, but the return could be too harsh and allow a stuff or hook. Perhaps instead a Tunnel Pressure Regulation System. This would need to work smoothly with driver inputs in order to avoid unpredictable handling. It's an interesting problem. |
It's ONLY a problem if you keep trying to push a boat past its point of no return in an effort to be the fastest on the water. THESE ARE THE WRONG BOATS TO DO THAT IN. These boat belong racing offshore where the challenge is man against against man and Mother Nature, NOT the challenge of who can spend the most money for the most horsepower.

Ron- I commend you on your decision to forego future shootout events and support the reasoning behind that decision 100%. I believe the hobby / sport will fare much better w/ less accidents and more experienced performance boaters sharing their knowledge and experience w/ the up and coming generations.

Doesn't the Quatar boat already have this system on board?
I'm curious as to where this parachute will be placed, as a slowing the boat down with this method seems like it would exasperate the problem of blowing over. |
Good call Ron, happy for you and your loved ones and for me because Ill continue to see more nice skaters from you
