Here is what we reported after Friday's race: "Engine issues kept owner/driver Joe Sgro and throttleman Steve Curtis from starting their new Outerlimits SV 43 V-bottom today in the Superboat Extreme class. The team also struggled with engine issues in Wednesday’s race. Whether Sgro and Curtis will compete on Sunday remains undetermined."
I spoke with two key members of the team and both said that they simply didn't confidence that their engines would last through Sunday's race. As they did from the time they announced they would compete in Key West, they declined to name the engine builder. When asked,, they provided no additional details on the specific causes of failure within the engine program. To be honest, folks, that's not at all unusual in this sport. I don't know about other motor sports as this is the only one we cover. |
Again, not unusual.

Isn't it unusual that it happens to the same team so much??
But to address your comment, I think any team that makes the Key West Worlds its first event of any given season faces an uphill struggle. I'm racking my brain to think of a team that's fared well in that scenario, and I'm struggling to come up with one. But ... The Outerlimits team came and they tried. And that counts, especially in what was—with the exception of the Clearwater race—a one-boat class this season. I think we were all sorry they didn't race after Wednesday, but I appreciated their effort to be there and try. |
Thank you Matt well said!! I was hoping hoping for some fresh competition. I guess there is no sense questioning there decision of motor builders because it is just that... there decision!! I do hope they figure it out and run the whole season next year!!

Yep
Remember the first season of the skater V OUCH!!! Then they got it right.and OUCH for its competitors |
Heck..Geico has been struggling with their engines for how long now? Anything new has teething pains. Nothing but upside from what I can see. :cheer:
