2003 Smith Mountain Lake Poker Run

I saw another post about Smith Mountain Lake the other day and it was correct, I hit the SML website etc.
My registration literature came yesterday, must register by 30 November.

Just got off the phone with Mariners Landing,
( www.marinerslanding.com ) to get a place there again. For what it is worth several friends of mine were unhappy with were they stayed, we had a GREAT time at a very very nice place for about $50 more a day. Covered docks, the townhomes slept 8 or 10 so you can split it with another couple.

Brian (Sydwayz) and Will (27 Fountain) provided great data on the event last year including maps. If not for those two we would have been iffy on coming.

It was an AWESOME event with a great Friday night party!!!!

--Who were those four women I was dancing with?--

SO, who all is in?
I am going to try and rally the HRPA on this one.
Bryan

I am back on for next year. Negotiating funds as we speak. I also have NO QUAMS about where we stayed, www.BernardsLanding.com.

Beautiful facility. We rented a 3 bedroom condo, and I could toss a towel out the window onto the boat from the 3rd floor.

Everyone: This one is WELL WORTH the trip. (Southwestern VA).

Sydwayz 10-03-2002 04:08 PM

I can't take all the credit. CheckmateF1 was very insturmental on the maps. Only problem is that dirty bastard sold his boat!!

Sydwayz 10-03-2002 05:13 PM

$125 per hand. Minimum two hands per boat.

BryanTuvell 10-03-2002 06:37 PM

+ $15 to be a member, well worth $265.
We are in at Mariners again, plus it is on a professional Golf course....... not that I golf, but there is an occassional honey in a golf cart as I drink my breakfast.

I hope to get some buds to stay over there this year, we were the only ones in the run that stayed there, made docking nice! LOL

SML Poker Run

Hey Guys, I was at the 2001 SML poker run, and had a really good time. Missed this years. I will be there next year. Is there anything in between, there? I was there for the May Run.

Sydwayz 10-03-2002 10:58 PM

Yes, Mike, had a great time. Thanks for putting us in touch. Look forward to the next time we all hang out.

BobbyB 10-04-2002 08:49 AM

Count me in for next year. I was talking to a friend last night and he said he was up for it. Just let me know all the details. Thanks guys for the help. Bobby

BAJA WILL 10-04-2002 09:31 AM

I may or may not be there, It was really nice to meet every one at the gathering at my Dads house. For those who have not been to SML you really should.

Will:p

Shah Mat 10-04-2002 09:39 AM

What do I need to do to get in on this one?

Sydwayz 10-04-2002 10:23 AM

Smith Mountain Lake Boating Association Web Site:

www.smlba.com

Early registration sign up letters were sent to last year's participants. The early registration for 2002 participants ends 30 November, 2002. Open registration for others begins Dec 1. There is a 75 boat maximum. There were 75 boat signed up last year, with several on the wait list. A few did back out on the day of the run, due to the weather, but this event does fill up.

The run date is Saturday, May 17th, 2003, with the kick off party at the bridge, the night before, Friday May 16th.

Chuck and Pam Poss are chairs for the run.
They can be reached at [email protected]

Please realize that if you were not a 2002 participant, I think you will have to wait until Dec. 1 to regisiter.

PS: This single event donated almost $20K to charity last year!!!!

Will, can we still use the dock next year for an OSO party? Tell your dad he can run with me, if the Fountain is in Florida by then. Hell, just buy a 300x for the Pontoon!

BAJA WILL 10-04-2002 10:43 AM

We will see, I may come up for the event. I am still trying to get acustomed to the FL style. BTW, I have been looking for a 2 door tahoe like your old one, they are a little hard to come by?

Will:p

Sydwayz 10-04-2002 10:48 AM

Will,
I hope Florida fits in with you. Yes, the 2 door Tahoe is hard to locate now, since no one builts a 2 door full size SUV anymore like it. DEFINATELY only get a 96-99. Do not get settle for an earlier one. The TBI is NOT up to par. Lots of luck! The Chevy dealers seem to have the best selection when I am out and about.

Sydwayz 02-27-2003 03:24 PM

As of 25 FEB 03; 62 boats are regisitered for the run. This leaves only 13 spots left for the 75 boat maximum. Get in quick!

Sydwayz 02-27-2003 03:33 PM

Hey Will, do you think you can make it back into town for the PR? It would be good to see you again. I hope we can do the pre-game party at your Dad's place again. It was a blast. If you are not able to make it let me know... if your Dad is willing to host us again, I will take care of on site incidentals and logistics.

OldSchool 02-27-2003 03:40 PM

Brian,
How far of a tow is it from nova?

Sydwayz 02-27-2003 03:43 PM

4.5 hours, give or take. WELL WORTH the trip. The PR is great, well organized. The lake is beatiful. I have made the trip for as little time only having Saturday and Sunday morning on the water, (leave Friday night, return back to NoVa Sunday afternoon), and it is still worth the effort. Some debate on which route is better, 29 South, or 66 to 81. I have only done 29, and like that route.

Sonny Spectre 30 02-27-2003 05:50 PM

I'll be there!

Looking forward to some warm weather. Hard to find anyone that wanted to run hard last year! If you haven't been its a great lake and a great time.

BAJA WILL 02-27-2003 06:02 PM

Brian,

I really can't say if I will make it or not this year, I will ask my Dad about use of the beach;)

Will:p

NEVER SATISFIED 02-27-2003 06:37 PM

Last year was the first year for the Tappahannock VA. bunch everyboby had a great time just wish it was a little warmer on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing everybody again hope we can get everybody together on Fridayagain. We have 4 or 5 boats coming and a few more riders. We all bought new boats since the last SML poker run and were ready to get back in the water. See everyone soon

Sydwayz 02-28-2003 08:07 AM

Bernard's Landing still has availability. I just booked this morning. We are staying in Woodlands again, as you look at their map:
http://www.bernardslanding.com/Property_Map.htm

I booked a three bedroom place. I am not sure at this point how many we will use, so I may have some room. I will know in a few weeks.

Brian, let me know if you have space. I'm trying to "economize". It will be my wife and I, and my two open-minded teenage sons (who sleep on the floor/couch).

Cignificant 02-28-2003 06:16 PM

NEVER SATISFIED, you Tappahannock people need to issue the RPBA a "formal" invitation so we can make a road-trip down there this summer. I used to spend every Memorial Day at the Southside Motel...

NEVER SATISFIED 02-28-2003 08:02 PM

Cignificant you don't need a invitation to boat with us yall are welcome any time you like. We can put in at Tappahannock and run down to the bay its about 35 miles each way usually a good ride. Its a few good places to eat between Windmill Point and this side of Urbanna. We'll have to get some phone numbers so we can hook up this summer. How many people do you have signed up for the Richmond poker run. We have 4 or 5 boats that would like to run in it.

Cignificant 03-01-2003 09:04 AM

Never, don't wait too long. We're about half full. And the longer you wait the crappier slip you get.

What ramp do you all use in Tapp? Could I get a 35' in/out? I've got a duallie so ramp slope doesn't affect me...

NEVER SATISFIED 03-01-2003 01:15 PM

We use June Parker Marina most of the time but you really have to watch the tide to get in and out no water at all at low tide. The best ramp for deep water at low tide is the one behind Southside Motel but the parking is very limited. They have been talking about cleaning out the creek going into the marina for several years but looks like nobody involved will make the first move to get it done. Its to bad because it is a nice ramp you can get 3 wide on the ramp and its only a few hundred yards to the river. We'll try to find out how many people want to go this week and get our entry forms in pretty quick. It sounds like a fun trip we don't want to miss it.

donzi29 03-01-2003 07:50 PM

Hey Cig

The Tappahannock Crew is all set to go to SML and we will be ready for the richmond run soon.

Will How the hell you been!!!!!!!!!!

BAJA WILL 03-01-2003 08:02 PM

Donzi29

I am doing great I am living in FT Myers for the winter, thinking of moving down to Naples. Found a great house on the bay across from the Ritz Carlton, myself and some friends are thinking of renting it for the year. It will be like REAL WORLD Naples style, couple seadoos, and if I am lucky I will get the Fountain here soon.

I may be back up in VA for the summer, and the SML PR. Only time will tell.

Sonny Spectre 30,

Is that you in front of me leaving the docks last year?

We'll see you guys again this year.

Sydwayz 03-31-2003 11:46 PM

We can't wait. It will be Neda's first PR, and she is excited.

Sonny Spectre 30 04-01-2003 06:13 AM

RBTNT: Yes, that is me. Looking forward to this years event and some WARM WEATHER this time. Hope to see you there.

Damn, my boat looks small in that picture!

Cignificant 04-01-2003 08:45 AM

Donzi29, doing well here. Waiting for the river to clean up so I can splash the boat!!

Get your entries in soon. I have a feeling we're going to fill up our Poker Run in the next few weeks!! As soon as the weather turns nice everyone gets the itch. We already have as many boats registered this year as ran last year!
