Fastest in a 24x7 hull?

Wrapped up my season with a few hours of testing and got to wondering today, what's the fastest anyone has run in a 24x7?

I've heard rumors of an old 24 Superboat that went 102, but don't know if this is gps, nodrskog, or what.

Sydwayz 10-30-2016 07:59 PM

Aggressor25 here on OSO had ~900-ish HP in his 23 Sunsation and got it up to 104 before it started prop walking 6 feet at a time in the direction of the prop rotation, during testing, and they called that 'good enough.'

He now has that same power in a 32 Single Sunsation.

jeff32 10-30-2016 08:02 PM

My 25 agressor with 500 hp ran 85 ish
So 100 is possible without doubt, just not sure hp needed...

phragle 10-30-2016 08:09 PM

WHY??? Thats not a hull that was designed to go fast, It was made to hit bumps. They love lumpy water., they do good in lumpy water, they are fun in lumpy water, they will put a smile on your face in lumpy water. If you try and cram a zillion horsepower in one to try and make it go fast, your the one thats liable to end up lumpy.

Dont be lumpy...

ndaniels 10-30-2016 08:12 PM

I broke thru the 92 barrier with this new lower finally. Yesterday 93 with a passenger and then 95 solo in some decent chop (was windy). Today 96 on dead flat water. It's plenty manageable too, so I'm sure there is more potential there.

What's the bottom on that sunsation like? Padded?

WHY? Cause it's a fun hull to run fast!!!

Or I should say on the right water it's a fun hull to run fast. On rough water it's just a fun hull, save the fast...

George Desmond's 18' Donzi ran in the teens I believe.

I'd like to see the boat. What power. What prop. Mine is done at 80. The hull gets loose. Way loose

ndaniels 10-30-2016 09:16 PM

454 with M3 set to 5psi. Guessing 675ish?
Hull is a 96 Superboat race layup, but has full interior and deluxe cabin, stereo etc.
Running an old 29 solid hub mirage on a bravo with a lower that has a hydromotive cone. Tried a -2 sportmaster, but it only worked with bravos and this hull doesn't care for those props (at least stock bravos)

I was the passenger on the 93mph run and I have to say that the boat was surprisingly stable at those speeds. It was stable enough that I was able to take cell phone video of the speedo (which I will load to YouTube later when I connect to wifi so I can get it in HD). Damn things pulls like a freight train too!!! I'd say without a doubt one of the most fun boats I have ever ridden in. The speed sensation in a boat that's only 7 feet wide is a riot!!

I had a 24 Pantera that I ran to 93-94 ish. It had more with more tweaking, but I ran out of cohones after my son was born. Accelerated like it was shot out of a cannon. As Phragle said, in snotty water, the boat was an absolute blast running around 70 or so.

Sounds awesome! What were you running for power? Got any pics?

Also My wife and I just had our first back in August (a son also). She eventually wants to go bigger and have onboard ac. Which to me also means slower, but I could live with a 35-12meter Fountain after a few years. I'd really like a y2k with ac tho. Be fairly cheap to run and we trailer all the time, so it would be a good fit..,

TomFTM 10-31-2016 09:51 AM

back in the early 90's , I had a 24 superboat (1976) that we changed from trs to bravo 1 and put a bbc with a twin turbo gale banks set up running 12 lbs of boost. it had the old nordskog speedo that I used to pin passed 85. Not really sure how fast it really went. Boat was a blast to drive..

kreed 10-31-2016 10:42 AM

Nice superboat!

That's not a 24x7 boat.

Cmon, Nick 96. You can do better than that. You were doing 87 in a 21ft.

No pics on the computer. Was running a Procharged 460 at around 625 hp swinging a 29 Mirage for speed runs. I was bound and determined to get that boat to 100 but life interrupted.

That setup sounds real familiar!

Man, that 21 was a bad ass boat. Still wish I owned it.. it's also the reason I sped up the 24.

Thought the same thing, right down to the solid hub Mirage! Thats what made me pipe up on this thread. I had a lot of fun in that boat but it was no joke over 75 or so

That's the truth!!!! Nick told me to take the wheel when we were out Saturday. I ran it up to 70-75 and handed the sticks right back over to him. I am already nervous anytime I drive somebody else's stuff, especially when its as nice as Nick's 24, but my Checkmate doesn't walk anything like that 24x7. I have a new found respect for anyone that drives one of these boats as fast as y'all do.

Are all of you guys with the 24x7s' standing in bolsters or are you sitting down? If so you have big balls! At 6'2" tall I felt like a monkey standing on a football when I sea trialed one before buying my Thoroughbred 280. After bombing around in a 20' Outlaw this summer I am thinking about buying a 24x7 and converting it to a sitdown style vee.

Converting to a sit down was the best mod I did. As a stand up I felt like I was on a surfboard

ndaniels 11-01-2016 02:03 PM

I 6'3" and sit down unless just putting along watching for debris or stretching. I've been wanting to convert mine to a sit down for a long time now!!

Hi!

I have owned a 25 feet offshore hull for nearly 20 years. The boat is a 25 feet Phantom made in 1985. I have owned several engine packages, inkl twin Merc 2.5 EFI SVS Brucato engines. It ran 88 mph and accelerated faster than a Skidoo with 300 hp. Only 5,5 feet wide it is a balacing act indeed. The 24 -25 feet size makes it a great great fun to drive.

Cheeers, Toffen

I think he ran 123mph with a 1000hp centrifical blower no trans direct drive arneson. Thats haulin azz in an 18ft donzi

scarabman 11-02-2016 08:08 AM

I am 5'11 and stood all the time. As mentioned, sometimes felt like standing on a surfboard. Then again, I have been 1/2 way round the world to some big wave spots!

Phragle cost several of us some money over the winter. My 27x7 is now a sit down and I wouldn't have it any other way.

f_inscreenname 11-02-2016 11:27 PM

You guys are lucky. I have a 24' Nova race boat from 1967. Eight foot wide at the transom and a hull that is a 1-1/4" of solid glass. 1200 hp to a single inboard prop. Low 70's mph
