Battery Trickle Charging
Hi everyone - I need some advice.
We have 4 batteries in total- in the spring (which can't come soon enough) I charge each one and it takes forever. What I was thinking is to wire them together in parallel -- NOT IN SERIES and hook up one trickle charger to them letting it run all winter. What do you think - or what do you do? What size trickle charger would you/do you recommend that could do all 4 batteries- or would it be better just to buy 4 trickle chargers? thanks for all your help 3pointstar |
I would purchase a 4 bank charger (or a pair of 2 banks) like they use in bass boats. The last set of batteries lasted me 8 years with never taking them out of the boat (Interstates). The computer in them maintains them very well.

I have two of the WalMart chargers that I leave hooked up BUT have had really good luck doing 4 One hour charges rather than continuous. They come with quick connects.

I have the harbor freight trickle charger. 4 batteries in total as well. I just make sure all of the batteries has a full charge in the fall. I rotate my trickle charger every week between each battery. It's not hard to do and it only takes a minutes with the alligator clips to switch the batteries.

Use a 4 bank charger.

Ask your home owners insurance company what they think.

I remove the two batteries from the boat, 3 from the Mustangs and the lawn tractor battery. I bring them all indoors in the basement. I charge each one separately once or twice over the winter with a 10 amp charger. I believe that is better then having power flow to them constantly. It also extends battery life to bring them indoors. My 2 cents.
