Being a passanger at max speed
 

Is there any of you out there that have no interest in someone giving you a ride that wants to impress you and show you how fast there boat goes. I love speed if I am the guy on the throttle but don't seem to trust others. I have been on to many rides with knuckle heads trying to impress and that means way over trimmed and what feels like on the edge. I watch some of the videos with boats and friends in the back seat high fiving as they are jumping off waves and wonder if they have any clue of what could happen at any minute.

it really depends on who your riding with (both ways)

I have some people I trust completely riding with. Some I dont.

Same thing driving. at times you have people in the back seat who know when to hang on, actively read the water and want to fly and some times you have people in the backseat who are clueless and just want to go for a boat ride.


One also has to know their own limitations.

Last year at BT we knew it was going to be rough. I had Glassdave and his GF in the boat with me. I asked Dave to drive because, well, he IS better at running a boat than me. I also had his girl sit in the front passenger seat and I sat in the back on the bench. I knew it was going to be rough and that in a little boat we could take some bad bounces so if anyone was going to turn into a human pinball in my boat, it should be me accepting that risk,

I need to be in CONTROL :)

No interest in knucklehead rides, they're just an accident waiting to happen.

As a driver of the boat, I was always considerate of my passengers, even if they didn't share the same joy of chop/speed that I did, after all, I'm the one who invited them, why be a dooche bag about it?

I did have an interesting ride with my wife, B-Law and his new girlfriend. We were going to run up Long Island Sound to meet some other boaters and do a run across to Pt. Jefferson. The girlfriend was in the passenger front bolster, as soon as I brought it up on plane I looked over and she had both arms wrapped around the bolster with a death grip and was slumped below the fairing, I figured my vinyl was a goner. I was probably only going around 40-45 or so and it was pretty calm out.

Oh well...we met up our buddies and they took off, we rambled across around 40mph while she took a seat on the floor in the back holding on to the bolster structure with an equally strong death grip. While I wanted to romp, the girl was terrified and I just didn't want to make it worse for her.

With others who are new to going out on the boat I alway turn around and check on them, it's pretty easy to get a read.

I would have to know the person well and also know his ability to drive a boat at high speed. As I have become older I have become much less inclined to put my life and health in someone else's hands. I am also very discriminating about who I invite to ride with me. My azzhat tolerance is set at a very low point. Some may say I have become a curmudgeon.

There will only be VERY rare occasions when we have passengers in the Skater. Yvonne and I also won't ride separately anymore. We both go or we both don't.

Randy 100% agree. I rarely ride with anyone else. They always have to show you how hard they can run etc. Just dangerous.

Plus they'll play music you don't like.

I don't like being a passenger in ANYTHING except airplanes; pretty sure I could drive a train just fine too.
