It's been done that way several times, starting over 40yrs ago..

The current water speed record holder Ken Warby is the only guy left to talk to about it. Here is the brief history of the records with jet powered boats. Prop boats are still running 100mph shy of these OLD records.

You are confusing turbine engines with jet engines.
