The process of using Resin Infusion for building boats was originally designed 50 years ago. It's acceptance into mainstream boat building today is due to new regulations of reducing toxic gases being released into the atmosphere and the production of low viscosity resins with longer set times. Eliminator Custom Boats is utilizing this great technology on their next Speedster 28.
A new resin is also being used. The new resin called Crestapol 1253 is said to make for a lighter and stronger boat and ideally suited for carbon fiber laminates. To see specs click http://www.scottbader.com/composites
The new 28 Speedster is predicted to be lighter by a couple of hundred pounds. The Resin Infusion process allows the laminates layers to be applied in the hull dry. Flow media, feed/vacuum lines, peel ply and vacuum bag are then placed in sequence.
The West Coast builders generally have excellent striping techniques utilizing different colored gelcoats that makes their boats stand out.

Tape being applied for creating the different colored stripe graphics
Different colored gelcoats being sprayed on
the multi colored stripe graphics on the deck is almost completed
epoxy primer with black tint covers the colored stripes. This is the beginning of the skin coat with exposed carbon fiber
Tacky spray being applied to laminates so that the laminates stay in place
Carbon kevlar stitched laminate being laid with excess cut off
