Hey guys, I bought my Hammond in the summer of '06 in Edmonton, Canada, from a guy who had it for 20 years or so. It's an '81 that was painted about 15 years ago, and has a matching interior. Still has the stock 260hp motor and pre-Alpha drive. I live on the southwest coast of BC now and love to use my boat at Harrison Lake or Okanagan Lake. I have put aftermarket performance manifolds and thru-hull exhaust and my boat which makes it sound real nice. I may be interested in selling it but only because I want a larger boat.

if you still have it and want to part with it message me i may be interested i also live in the area

i was trying to find information about hammond boats. i stumbled across this forum.. from reading what you guys say about them...seems like they are awesome boats..
i found a 1978 v1950 in my area. got the merc 165/merc outdrive.
its is very rough shape. the deck-hull joint is splitting on a good 3 feet on the left side, you can push the bottom in under the molding.
its my first boat project. i dont really know what im getting into but was wondering if it was worth restoring the old guy..??
what kind of fixing would the hull need? pricy? also the clear coat on the gel peelled off in a lot of areas. sand and respray? or am i looking into a regel?
hes asking 800 for it.. from what ive seen i wouldnt offer more than 500$

also are parts still available? if so where could them ?
thanks for your help

Be Careful !

The Hammonds were built to be mass produced like the Glastrons using a chopper gun. So you may find some severe weaknesses on older hulls. And really check those Strykers also!
The layup details and materials were not as stringent as the usual high-performance company might utilize.

From what I hear the Superboat, The Shadow and the Tuff versions are quite solid and modern in construction.

Great Hammond Challenger vid on Classic Glastrons!!

I almost bought one of those in 84... I drove to Phoenix from LA in August (118 degrees !) to see it but settled on a custom Hallett built here.

But yes I'd love to restore one also.

The SS drive... How cool is that? I haven't seen one of those in quite a while. It is more aerodynamic than any Bravo...even with a nose cone....however they do have power limitations and it seems you're running some pretty good horsepower there! :)

Does the engine use a mass air flow sensor?

You got me brother. In the words of the immortal Donald Sutherland AKA Odd Ball "I just drive em, I don't know what makes em go"

I do the research on these projects and manage them but leave these kinds of details to the people that build/sell/work on them every day.

1981 2150 Challenger for sale

Looking to sell my 21' Hammond. I had plans to re-do the boat with a 500+ hp small block with Bravo drive, but life got in the way. I already purchased a brand new from Mercury Bravo transom assembly. It has not been in the water since '09. Boat is in good shape, with mid '90's 4 color paint job and mint matching interior. It sits on the original tandem trailer with new radials and mags. 350 engine with aluminum manifolds and risersand through hull exhaust. If anyone is interested, I can send pics.

dereknkathy 01-12-2013 07:05 AM

hi. what kind of money, what is in the boat, and where is it? like real estate location is a big thing. if you are in miami, it isn't worth free to a guy in seattle...

chevydan 04-07-2013 01:10 AM

The boat is in British Columbia, Canada, about an hour outside of Vancouver. It has a 260 hp 350 Merc(chev) with less than 400 hours. Looking to get around $8,000 for it.

Hi. I too looked at this boat when she was selling it and at the time, I went a different direction. I have loved these boats since I was a kid and have been kicking myself for not purchasing it at that time. Do you have any interest in parting with the Challenger? Thanks!

DjMikeyC 09-11-2013 08:55 PM

I found an '81 Hammond Challenger without the molded in swim platform, did they all come with them? If so I'm thinking new transom on this one. Have not seen it in person yet just pics.

Start a new thread. Nobody wants to read thru 13 pages of 12 year old thread to get to what you have to say or need to know.
