We decided to up the power on our family truckster a skosh this winter. Eddie Young rebuilt the motor the boat came with 3 years ago and it has run flawlessly (broke a few drives, spun a coupler, ignition box failed, etc but the motor always ran great). When Eddie rebuilt the motor he kept the Merlin Grumpy Jenkins (325cc intake port) iron heads at my request to save on the build cost. He mentioned at that time if more power were ever desired in the future we could swap heads and turn up the boost and keep the engine just as reliable as it is now. We decided to take him up on the offer this winter. Off came the Grumpy Jenkins 325cc iron heads, on went the Brodix 345cc aluminum heads (which lowered the static compression from 8.25:1 to 8.1:1 mainly because of deck height I think-I'm not mechanically savvy and get lost sometimes with what Eddie is explaining to me). Off came the 4 pound boost pulley combo, on went the 10 pound boost pulley combo. The engine remains a 93 octane pump gas guzzler. Can't wait to get some seat time in the new setup! .

Nice!

With Eddie doing the mods you know it will run great.

Have fun,

You'll definitely never get Tdub in that thing now! I'll toss the Lifeline in the boat in the off chance I get a ride this summer on Clinton.

To solve coupler/drive issues look at DriveGuardian by MDC http://www.marinedesigncorp.com/our-products.html . We have used our successfully for 3 full race seasons and have been pleased with results.

Ha! That's awesome, is that live? Eddie told me they were doing a water tune today. Looks cold. Nice tow rig Eddie!

Would IMCO SCX upper utilize the Bravo DriveGuardian?

Looks like the ramp Eddie uses. Must have a new truck. Very well might be Travis in the truck Eddie in the boat.

I do not know. You can contact Mike at MDC. He is the inventor/designer/manufacturer of the system. The DG replaces the stock Bravo coupler, but he has other configurations. More and more race teams are using it. (Lilly, Saris, Stihl, Boxer to name a few)

Thanks!

The size of the boat looks alarmingly inadequate next to Eddie's giant new tow rig, thanks for sharing. In all seriousness Eddie and his trusted side kick Travis do great work. I'm hard on parts and can't seem to break their stuff, thanks guys! Here's a link of the motor cold start after reinstalled in the boat:

Cold start being the appropriate phrase. It was about 33 when we ran it on the hose, but it warmed right up when we lake tested it. It was up to a balmy 38 deg.

That's it. Poor truck is filthy. It's been raining for the last 3 weeks, so I didn't even bother with cleaning it. Just had it all washed up today though.

Very cool congrats, that NSX should be a rocket, just curious, what speeds were you seeing before the 150HP upgrade?

SecondWind 01-28-2017 05:24 AM

103 w/ Bravo XR upper/IMCO SC lower and 98 w/ IMCO SCX upper/SC lower in ideal conditions before upgrade. That's w/ a Bravo 34 pitch non-labbed prop. The boat is setup to pull my kids skiing, not for pulling a great top end number. Idles like my late grandmother's old Buick. I was bummed not to be able to bury the speedo after the drive upgrade, hence the recent bump in power. Super fun boat as you're well aware of owning a 25 Talon.

Nice! Love my little Talon also, I will probably never sell that boat, great little boat for me to go hot rodding around in. Mine does about same speed 98-99 MPH with a Victory Marine 572" 680 HP and XR built with XZ gears. I spin the 572 5,700 r's..... and it has a real lumpy idle! :)

Picked the boat up this afternoon to take her home. Here are a few pics from Eddie's shop today.

Brings back good memories. May have to have an upgrade just to see Eddie again.

Not sure why it's there but that's a great looking boat! The size of the tunnel is huge for that size of boat, I'm sure it flies.

575cat 02-04-2017 03:30 PM

I should say one of my previous boats , had it built in 2014 and sold it jan 2016 , fun rig .

DriveGuardian works perfectly with the IMCO SCX upper and will eliminate your spun coupler issues.

GF?

I forgot to tell you the other day when we were on the phone. It totally slipped my mind. We are rebuilding the engine and turning it up. He wants to go faster.
