I can remember my 1st time going up the advance slope at Boogerloaf on a class ski trip in the 7 th grade, can't remember what it was called.

I was a pretty good skier , started when I was 5 and had much older brothers to learn from, and I was fearless . Until I broke my tibia and fibia the year before and was left for dead on top of the Face at Cannosburg after closing time.

That's another story.

Soo

Blowing about a 100 off Lake Michigan and only one other kid from school went up the lift with me and he was a much much more fearless skier than me.

The problem was the cliff you skied off into that little bowl was shear ice.

I pondered at the top for 20 minutes after the other guy went down haphazardly with a ton of speed yet to return to the top again.

The bottom looked far far away but I knew no matter how hard I bit it , you had to stop when you got to the bottom.

Over I went , soon losing it and suffering the incredible defeat., looking like the ski jump guy off wide world of sports.

Sat in the lodge the rest of the day with everyone else being it was like 15 below with the wind.

Went skiing one more time out at Chitty Cannosburg and hung up my Skiis.

Heading out to Beaver Creek in Utah at the end of the month for some snowmobiling. Gotta stay busy during the winter!

Hate to say it but I look way more forward to my winters in the mountains than I do my summer weekends on our Apache.

I moved from Crested Butte to the flat lands back in the mid-2000's but having winters entirely off work allows me to still get 35-45 (I'll be at 30 crested butte resort days by the end of next week for this season already) resort days a season and and an additional 15+ days on sled specific trips to the northern mid-west.

This has been a very good winter in Elk mountains of Colorado with a storm the beginning of January that dropped well over 100" in 9 days and something like 340" year to date in the Irwin area.

It is nice to have something to look forward to during each season.

Been marooned up in Michigan since I came up for a visit in September and, than my sister talked me into staying for Christmas.
Working on a buddies house up here that's been dragging out.

Bored to death . Debated snow-skiing out at Cannosburg, but without health insurance and my center of gravity being slightly higher than it was when I last skied 40 years ago , I don't see that as a wise endeavor .

Longest I have not been out on a boat in 33 years.

But Baronmarine on here takes me out to his boat storage to let me work on his boat on the weekends.

I guess that's Qualifies as Boating , up here in Michigan in the winter.:evilb:

Wise move IMO. It's the one sport where people being dragged down the mountain in a Litter all day does nothing to hamper the activity. I'm actually surprised at the number of injuries that occur when skiing, I've played a lot of sports and this one is pretty much at the top for risk.
