Any particular wind direction to watch out for? What is the max wave forecast you would run in?

Avoid any NNW to E over 10-15 if possible. North wind opposes the gulf stream current and can create nasty waves. I use two websites to check the conditions when I am crossing. Windguru and Sailflow. Both are very good and the Sailflow map is usually dead on 24 hrs ahead. The NOAA forecast is worthless, it is almost always worse than what they say. I think 2-4 is the max forecast you should cross in, unless the waves have a very long period like 8 or more seconds, then they are big swells and are fun ride ride on.

Haulover is closer but Pompano is less ghetto and usually less missing parts from your truck when you get back. Pompano is 5 minutes from Hillsboro Inlet. Google map 2974 NE 14th St, Pompano Beach, FL 33062.
