Default 1999 Mercruiser 500 Bulldog Value?

So I have searched OSO for the Bulldog engine and found some discussions with specs. From what I saw, seems like a great motor. What I did not see was a value. Would someone mind chiming in on a ballpark for it? Owner says it is a 1999 make and had 200 hours on it when he bought it, he has put another 30 to 40 hours on it. He is the owner of a longstanding reputable boat shop in town. He says it still has the stainless strap on it meaning it has never been opened up? Unfortunately it is in a Sea Ray Pachanga 22 that just won't fit my family. I was thinking about buying the boat and pulling the motor and bravo drive and putting in a sport boat with an open bow.

Thanks for the help!

There is no way to verify the hours on it, so unless he knew the engine before he bought it, I would take the 200hrs with a grain of salt.
With 240ish hours, it will need valve springs done at a minimum and probably should have a complete top end refresh.

IMO, its worth 7-8k as is. Its current value is pretty similar to the standard 502/500HP

I don't think you'll get a long line of people to buy a 500 bulldog for 15k. My opinion is more likely to get in the 7500-9000 range complete, clean and with exhaust.

I know where 2 are sitting with real low hours. Ive been trying to buy them for years! i was up to 30k for the pair 2 months ago. 50 hour motors complete sitting for 12 years in a heated room. along with 8 other sets of various HP not being used. he's a hoarder

I agree that is 1 of the best engines Merc Racing ever made, and if it's truly a 240 hour engine, with the Merc racing seals intact, and exhaust, it's worth probably closer to 10- 12K, IMHO...

50 hour motors worth closer to the 15 than one with 240. Good luck I'd want to grab those too!

Thank you for replies. The guy is selling the 500 bulldog, a completely refreshed bravo 1, and a nice shape pachanga 22 for under 20. Think I will try and snag it and look for a nice open bow to put the motordrive in as the selling season warms up a bit. Anybody have nice open bow without a motor? 25' or less? Anybody want a nice shape pachanga 22?
