Is it BAD when you pull the drain plug on your gear case.....
and NOTHING comes out? Not even WATER?  Maybe THAT is why the drive broke?
No that is totally normall...... Oh waite you ran it like that ;) ;) Dude that SUCKS!!!! OUCH. Oh well back to the drawing board.
Jon |
Jon,
Funny thing is, I was going to change the oil before I went "just to be safe", but got busy, and said, "it only has one or two runs on it, it should be fine..." Next time, I will DEFINITELY check it. At least it isn't July 4th. |
To top it all off, last night I re-filled teh case with oil to prevent rust and this morning NO OIL leaking out anywhere!
I think it was SABOTAGE:mad:
Just kidding . Dude That sucks. Thank god it's almost snowmobile season, You got a few months to fix this one . see you Friday Paul |
Shane, I always check my lower plug about every other run just to make sure, sorry to hear about the bad news, Christmas is coming so I know what you want so be good and maybe you'll get a gear set!;) :D
I hate it when the oil wants to play hide & seek. I
i'd say you narrowed it down to the problem!!!!!
I would put a preasure pump on it and pump it up..... Something sounds fishy... You could have had the oil leak out the top drive shaft gasket but I would think that water would have replaced the oil........
Jon |
sounds like you got foulized
Sorry to hear about it dude Travis |
The prop shaft seal is double lipped. One lip keeps water out, the other keeps oil in. You may have damaged the oil seal while the water seal stayed in tact. If the oil went out the driveshaft single seal you would find it in your bellows with a well lubricated gimbal bearing. No water present there, hence no water seal needed at the top. Did you pull the drive yet?
Course, I am referring to a mercruiser drive, so if so have something else.... never mind. BT  |
Maybe the water drained as the boat was hauled out of the water? Any way Problemo big time!
Just for the record Shane has CLE drives from a 2.5 O/B
Thanks everyone. Just got a call from a buddy that has got me a newly re-built CLE for $900.00 Any thoughts on price? Sounds like a fair price to me especially vs. rebuilding this one. The nI will have a SPARE!
dont sound bad to me knowing what you paid to have them rebuilt last time.
Shane, grab it youll be glad you did, tripps
Having a spare sounds like a really good idea. You would certainly appreciate it if this does happen some July 4.
I got a whole spare Bravo , it's just ashame I can't carry it with me and change it like a spare tire. Last drive I broke was a two week ordeal (over the 4th of July of course), so I figure now I can blow one up Saturday , come back on one motor , change it and be on the water again Sunday:D.
Of course there is "Murphy's OTHER law"...If you have a spare anything , you won't need it:rolleyes:.(I hope) |
900 is a decent price on that CLE.
Jump on it. |
That's a good Murphy's law!! I would like to find an extra Bravo for just that occasion, (may it never happen). See ya gotta go to the parts section:p
First you couldn't keep liquid out of the boat, now you can't keep it in the gearcase? What's up with that?
Man, that sucks! But, better you than me!!!:D Seriously, that's too bad. |
Shane,
The prop shaft has two seals on it. The outer one to keep the water out and the inner one to keep the oil in. Perhaps the inner seal went on you that let the oil out. Oh yeah one other thing, don't let me find out where you are getting a CLE for that price:eek: I'll be racing you for it.......:D :D :D |
shane you know that award i gave out on the HOT TODDY RUN. Points start adding up from now to OCT. 2003 I would buy both of them or at lease one . So you better go out on the highway and collect more cans.
The back of my truck is FULL Of recycleables! Anyone wanting to support the effort, please feel free to send me your recycleable bottles and cans that I can turn in to pay for this new gear case. Many thanks in advance! :o
Miller, You haven't worked in 2 years, come on, help an old buddy out Mr. Belvedere.;) |
Actually, it's only been about 19 months since I last had to report to an office!!! I wish I could hit the 2 year mark, but I'll need to markets to rebound to extend my generosity. :D
blah blah blah!:p
It appears you're pretty busy at work today, huh Shane??
WORK??? What's that? I just come to the office to hang out on OSO! Gee, look who's talking about WORK! MILLER!:p ;) How are ya buddy. Just got a Yellow Lab Puppy! She is AWESOME!
Sounds cool. I took in a new yellow lab/golden retriever mixed puppy a few weeks ago. He's cool. Again, he's another Guide Dog Foundation puppy and I'm raising him for the next 12 months or so and then he'll go back to be a seeing eye dog for the blind.
Sweet. Hopoefully this one will get you some HOTTIES!:D
Call me and I'll fill you in on some of dates I've had that resulted from walking the dog. It's too funny.
But, you need to call my cell as the home number has not been working for about a week and I'm still waiting on the phone company to fix the line. |
Here's a hint...PAY THE BILL!;) :D :p
I wish it was that simple. Try dealing with the local phone providers in NYC. They don't make it easy!
