Bad boy boats

Recently purchased a 32 Badboy powerboat. Single engine X-R drive. It is my understanding that only four were made. They were made in South Jersey. Interested in knowing if any of the other three are local. Would like to exchange thoughts and info as far as what kind of power the other ones have and how they perform. Boat is single step with ventilated bottom. Also I believe there were two 38's made. Just dropped in a 555 cubic inch motor in the boat Littlefield Blower with inter cooler. Well aware of the fact that the drive may be an issue so we will be coming out of the hole very carefully. Hope this reaches someone with one of the other three. (Sam)

I had no idea there were even (4) 32' built. I thought there was the original plug boat that was raced in OPA with Will and Larry with a 800 HP Pat Muci sp motor. Was a factory backed test boat. Then Howard Richardson bought what I thought was the only other 32' built and that is a canopied version. It should hit the water for the first time this year. Howard Im sure has more info if there were more built. Not a lot of data out there other than the builder Tony is great with fiberglass.

I assume you bought the one that was listed on here a couple months ago? I was out of town when he posted it up for sale. I called the day I returned home, was ready to jump in my truck to go get it. It had sold earlier that day! Congrats on the purchase. Always been one of my favorites.

Great running and well built boat enjoy!

I see that you are located in Maryland. When the season starts and you head to the Ceasapeake Inn give me a shout, we are in there quite often. Don't know if you ever saw the Badboy up close but it will look somewhat different. You can get me at ([email protected]) We can also launch at Anchor Marine in Northeast Md.

Still a work in progress. Working on ideas for the entranceway to the cabin and some graphics on the exterior. Also do not have a clue on how to post pictures. When finished will try to figure how to post pictures. The entrance to cabin is not finished. Also removing the passenger side steering, the steering hub sticking out of the dash is a hazard. The steering mechanism will be tucked away underneath and the opening in the dash will be dressed up with a pad with some graphics in the vinyl.

Would love to get a closer look at it sometime. We boat out of the south river, a couple miles south of the bay bridge. I will have to catch up with you if I make any of the runs that are going up there to the Chesapeake Inn this season.

Don't want to be a Debby downer but be carful. I am VERY good friends with Wil and Larry. I remember them saying the boat was a handful with power. If you were turning left racing it would be a handful. I am sure everyday boating it will be a blast and you will never be able to break the hull. Well built boat !!!! Do you think you may have the original boat??? The weight would tell if you weight it. Tony could lay it up fully rigged under 4200 lbs.

The first pic with the decals on the side is when we first got it. The pic of the engine is when we first put the 555 in and it's still being finished and dressed up. Will post new pics as it progresses. We were hoping to have around 850 horsepower. Not sure what size prop we are going to be using.

that's a cool boat. Love the classic lines. I never knew Bad Boy built a boat like this.

I've been in the boat when Sam & Billy just got it, can't wait to run it with the new power!

Hi there, and congrats on your Bad Boy buy! My name is Christian, I raced the boats along with Wil and Larry & Tony and have logged many many many hrs in the boat, very strong glass lay up. That boat is the plug to make the mold and was born as a tempest purchased from Bill Gazell. The boat turns great once you get used to it, positive trim will help. The rougher the better. With a 900hp Pat Musi motor, we had the boat running mid 90s. with around 680 hp Bandit racing engine we where able to see a solid 83-4 in 1' chop with no funny business i.e. chine walk etc. If you have any questions feel free to reach out, a orange boat was sold to New York, not many were made, and thats really too bad as they where built very well, and handle great once you get to know the boat. Tony built them as a blank canvas for dealers or riggers to run wild with, just never pushed them hard enough…

No problem, they look sweet. You polished the right up. Going to make a huge difference, and they still sound great!

Will do thanks for the interest. Are u still running the 24 Baja, I had a1988 for 20 years, sold it to a friend and he still has it. Looks great for an almost 30 year old boat.

jackieboy 03-16-2017 02:27 PM

Can anyone chime in here if you have any ideas on prop selection for this Badboy. 32ft single step XR drive with the ITSSetup. Going to be approx. 850hp. 4500lbs. (Thanks)

TOASTY 03-16-2017 04:14 PM

4 blade bravo 1 lab'd 28. If I recall 6250 Rpm she screamed. might want to try a 32 and cut down a hair
we played with lots of props. sorry i am not on OSO a lot

jackieboy 03-17-2017 07:06 AM

Christian I don't know if you realize it but this is Sam from Hargroves. We bought the Badboy last fall. Thanks for the info on the prop, that is about what we were thinking. (28 labbed) we are thinking that or a 30 labbed to keep the rpm's down. Would like to max out around 55 or 56 hundred rpm's. Our big thing is cruising speed running around 38 hundred to 4 thousand rpm's because of the amount of times we will run to the Inn from Hargrove Marina. Would like to cruise around 55 or 60 mph. (Thanks for the info)

TOASTY 03-17-2017 11:49 AM

Hi Sam,
I am sure you will take great care of the hull. We would run exactly at 4,000 rpm and where at 56 mph on the nose, with the bandit racing engine. If you have any questions please feel free, I have lots of notes about the bad boys, and detailed photos of when we CG'd the boat too.

All the best,
C

Thanks for the response, that's just about where we want to be. Wil try the 28 and the 30 and see which one works best, 55 cruising would be nice but 60 would be ideal.

Just started the new engine today. Will be tuning and dialing it in within the next few weeks. Here's the link below on youtube
