Default Any tablets that have "real" gps and could replace a chart plotter/gps unit???

Im finishing another refit on my 41 Apache /new motors/gauges/stereo/speakers/tvs/etc and was wondering if anyone knows if there is a tablet that could replace a GPS/chart plotter unit? or have any experience bad or good? Ive read some discussion on this in other places but have not heard a definitive answer on a tablet that would offer a true GPS receiver that would work without cell or wifi signal and have a bright enough screen. Im also working on a raspberry pi3 project to convert all the analog gauge signals to digital that could be displayed on the tablet as well and operate any switches that control pumps lights and so on. Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks in advance

Andy

I tried a iPad, the issue was seeing it. Put non reflective screens etc.

Never could see it so I gave up. Was using navonics app.

Glad to hear No Reservations is coming back to life. Been a long time since I've seen it running.

Can you post a picture where it is mounted?

I could not even come close to seeing the screen. Or post what screen you use?

In the past I've used an ipad with navionics. Works pretty slick. Didn't really have an issue seeing it.

My baja 302 has a large glass windshield and I buried it as deep as I could under it directly in front of the helm using a screwed down base and arm extension Ram mount. I can turn it left to right as well as position up and down. My windshield is also tinted so that helps. For boats without generous windscreens, I agree you'll probably have difficulty seeing the Ipad screen as I do when in the field (work) on a daily basis.
