Speakers
Thoughts on new speakers and amps? I'm really trying to do this on a budget if possible but I would like like to have a decent system too. Wetsounds? JL?
|
Mike.
JL all the way! Mark |
Budget and JL really don't go together, but you get what you pay for. Buy once, cry once, go with JL.
|
Another for JL - they rock.

I had JL on my last boat. Loved it. My buddy put Kicker speakers on his JL amps...sounds awesome. I think I may be putting Kicker on my Donzi with JL amps. Lots more bang for the buck.

i had jl subs and the surrounds didnt last long now i have diamond audio. they have held up and blow the jl stuff away. i found what i wanted and bought everything on ebay wasnt bad price.

How big of a system are you putting together? Mb quart has some great stuff for reasonable money.
|
I went with jl 10 sub and Polk 6 1/2s sounds good and was at a good price

I went to a show this past week and had 2 JL guys push Wetsound. That took me by surprise. I am going to end up with a bit of a mix on my ski boat with Wetsound low and Kicker up top. I have had good luck with Kicker stuff in the past, and intended on a Kicker home run. However, free Wetsound speakers are hard to pass up. Before you ask, a friend won some Wetsound stuff and ended up not using it. Thanks Friend!

I also used 6 of the 8ohm 7's for my home theater. Downside is the price has really gone up. I paid less than $100/speaker when I got mine. |
JL subs, focal mid and highs and precision power amps. ;)
My recommendation is to Ignore marine stuff and save on the premium. I've had a lot of systems in boats, cars, golf carts, etc. and even have had a couple competition sound systems in cars so I have some experience. I've never owned marine grade and never had a problem. That's one way to save money. Another is, truly, you don't HAVE to buy super high end stuff to get a rock-in system. Basic alpine, fosgate, kenwood, eclipse, pioneer, JL, etc will get you loud clean music. The basic run of the mill stuff now-a-days is pretty impressive for the cost. I've owned them all - they do the job. Just my .02 |
I've had this boat since 07 and it came with 4-10s, a 12 and 2-6.5s. I think I'm going to drop the 12 and add 4-7.7s.

Good clean power is the key to great sound. Spend the money on a good amp and go with a separate amp for the sub. I have Memphis Audio and have been very pleased.

JL is the way to go
|
Mike, you should look up Rob in Indy. He has a slip on Monroe and has a custom shop on Indy. His last couple Fountains had were pushing over 50 Speakers in each. JL dealer.

Im running an old school Hifonics zues 5 channel amp, 4 NOS mtx 7"coax's and 2 MTX 10's and it thumps loud.... and was pretty reasonable price wise
|
JL for sure. Have JL systems in 5 of our boats and love them.
If you're not doing it yourself, + 1 for ROB at elite. He will take care of you |
JL if you want dependable year after year performance. The Focals sound clear and LOUD but we had issues after just 1/2 a season. Lost a few. Went back to JL.

Hey Mike, look up "jonyb" here on OSO. He's not active here much, but his business is doing well; and is in your region.
John Bauer https://www.facebook.com/Proinstallzmobilemarine http://proinstallzmobilemarine.com/ He's taken great care of a couple friends and members here. His advice is sound, and can supply according to your needs. He had the exact same boat as a local buddy of mine, and sent him and entire stereo system with wire lengths pre-cut and labelled, the works. |
