Mercury Racing Verado ROS Outboards Hung On Skater 368
#43
According to Shaun Torrente, who does driving stints behind the wheel of an X-Cat when he's not driving the Victory F1 boat, the 400ROS does not make any more power and does not have a higher rev limiter than the standard 400R. There are a few Guardian Mode parameters in the ECU that are set different to keep the motors from going into Guardian Mode as easily as the consumer version 400R. My understanding is that the powerhead and gearcase are the same, everything else is different.

The biggest difference between the 400R and the 400ROS is the price and warranty - a good price on a 400R is around $28,000.00 with 3 years of warranty, the price on the 400ROS is around $46,000.00 and ZERO warranty. There's no doubt those 15" ROS motors look awesome on Matt's 368, but I certainly won't be spending almost $40k additional and giving up warranty to get 15" mids and no performance gains when it comes time to buy the motors for my 30 conversion. Matt's 368 definitely sets a precedence for big outboard cats that will follow - it makes the MTI 340X look small in comparison, yet is just as fast!

When the DW35RT comes out, they should do a shootout between the three boats. That would be a cool comparison. Put them all side by side and run them.
