Noli, when running the stock XS cowlings, they need intakes at the front or the mist generated at high speeds off the backside of the cowlings will be ingested in the rear air intakes. The vents allow air to flow through the cowling keeping the mist from being sucked in. DBR in Havasu sells the kits which are pretty easy to install. Another fail on the 3.0 XS platform from Mercury.
