Didn't go very well.... 1st time I ever thrown a blade off a prop...

Nate5.0 04-03-2017 09:17 AM

Can't say I have ever seen it come clean off like that before.

Dave M 04-03-2017 09:25 AM

That sucks. I've lost a blade, but not so close to the hub.

Knot 4 Me 04-03-2017 09:30 AM

Not a matter of if but when on Bravo I lab finished props. I've seen a couple just like that.

Yeah I've been running the snot out of that prop for over 150 hours...., just glad that it didn't take out the cavitation plate on the XR or do any damage to the rest of the drive or the boat :)

was about to ask if it tore anything else up. Glad it didn't!

Jupiter Sunsation 04-03-2017 09:55 AM

Salt water claims another victim! :D

Sydwayz 04-03-2017 10:38 AM

The one time I've had one come off like that, it took out the cavitation plate and the lower as well. You got lucky.

Interceptor 04-03-2017 10:55 AM

Anyone ever hear of a thrown blade taking out the other prop ?

VoodooRob 04-03-2017 11:03 AM

File that rough edge down and run at 3/4 throttle, you'll be fine.

Knot 4 Me 04-03-2017 11:54 AM

There was video posted here once from a rearward-facing GoPro that captured a blade coming off a boat and going airborn behind it. Can you image following someone in a poker run and catching a blade in the teeth?!

I know!, I was wondering where the blade ended up, hopefully on the bottom of the ICW....

A number of years ago at the Rochester Offshore Battleship Run on Seneca Lake, A guy in a really nice 42' Fountain did just that. He was running a set of 5 blade Hering props on Six Drives and tossed a blade from one drive right into the other. Want to guess how much that cost?

Why do that? he can cut off the opposite blade so its balanced and be able to run full throttle! :cool-smiley-027:

Wildman_grafix 04-03-2017 01:16 PM

April fools day was hard on us, 5 boats and only two didn't break something!

Hateskate 04-03-2017 02:37 PM

Yep... I had a labbed 28 Bravo 1 throw a blade pretty much exactly like this.

So that's what a semi-labbed finish is, huh? Lol

How fast were you going when it happened? Did the boat do anything weird after the blade decided to part ways?

40-50mph, BUT I just gave the throttle a little push... And once the blade departed, the boat just started vibrating real bad, even though I had never thrown a blade before, I could feel the vibration was drive related...

SecondWind 04-04-2017 05:37 AM

That sounds relatively safe anyway. I'm assuming you got off plane and limped home.

Exactly what happen when a blade launched on our boat. Sudden vibration.

msm 04-04-2017 11:48 AM

In the first picture it sure looks like the blade to the right has a crack on the trailing edge. From the looks of the slung blade, the crack initiated on the trailing edge and propagated forward about a half inch before it let go all at once.
