Lake St. Clair cat suggestion.
Hi Guys ,
Looking for Input regarding a cat in the 32-37' range. I see there are some decent deals out there and have been seriously considering a second boat for poker runs, or quick runs to PIB for burgers lol. I have never been in one but all my friends that have say it's the cheapest way to 100! Not looking to go 150 or even 120 for that matter just something that will cruise in the 80-90 range and be bullet proof and somewhat safe (being a relative term). The lake can get washy on the weekends with 3-4' common? The formula ss is just not cutting it anymore. In researching looks like 36 Spectre and 37 talons can be had at a reasonable price, sadly the skaters and nor-techs are more than I'm looking to spend. Really like the 6person capacity of the Spectre but in reading I hear about this "porpoising"? Thanks for the input. |
DCB M35!!! End of discussion.

Sweet boat, actually I hear there will be the 1st one out here this year, but regrettably more than I'm looking to spend.

Lake St Clair can be rough bye a cat without a center pod.
|
That's what I have read, again skater was suggested but even a 32 is more than I'm looking to spend, although finding one with 400's would be sweet.
|
This will get the job done. In rougher water there will be no porpoise issue, in calm water porpoising is the nature of the beast without a pod.

Saw that one as well as the one up north. I would imagine if it can handle lake Michigan, st Clair should not be a problem?
|
My DCB F34 had no issues on lake Michigan, Erie or St Clair. If the water is 2' chop no problem, get larger than that you will not be going over 50.
|
This looks clean. Save some money up front so you can make it go faster as needed.

I'm concerned a 32 will be too small especially on the weekends? Really like the width of the Spectre seating for 6. And it's 36'? What is the difference between the 32a and 32B?
|
Ed Champion's 37 Talon is a bulletproof package. Low hour 525EFI's and SSM6 drives on the trailer for under a 100k.
|
32 Skater would be an awesome boat on St. Clair. It does not get too rough for that boat. Jimkid on here had a 30 skater for years and he flew all over that lake, up the river to Port Huron and down to PIB all the time. Even a 28 skater with o/b would be a fun boat.
|
36 spectre is a great boat. Handles lake st clair fine, have never had it lake erie yet.
|
Haha boatman looks as if we may end up having the same set up, I have 330 as too lol. What kind of power do you have and what is cruise speed? Thx

There are a few of these around and they were made up on the St. Clair River.Waves would not be a problem. |
I hope that's a wrap! Yikes. Nas-t was an ocean I believe.

Thanks boatman, I love the formula for what it is too, but I have the speed bug and doing the poker runs with it is not as fun anymore, further it can be a true PIB burger for lunch boat haha
|
Nas-t is still for sale, look up American Custom Marine. Mike knows the boat well!

I would look towards a Skater for LSC as it can get sloppy. Not knocking the Spectre at all as several of my good friends have one but they do not have a big free board and personally for me if it's bumpy i like to be with something that has a decent free board. The 36 Spectre is based out of a Skater 32A but stretched 4 more feet and wider cockpit to provide 4 seats in the back (tight). I would look at the Skater 32B (36 would be better as it is the best Skater till date; Ask Ron followed by the 388). Ed Champ has a 2000 32B (5 step bottom) for sale the. It has 500 efi which will not get you to 120mph mark BUT will cruise easily 80-85 mph and you can always work it to get you to 120 mph. People now are going to say it might / needs tank. Okay ? So what at the price he's asking for it you can get the tanks done and be in a newer style Skater with a much high and safe free board. Ed Champion is a great to deal with. I have no connection with it but much better boat than others mentioned. Asking price is $89k obo.

I love those 160 mile round trip lunch runs to PIB! I do it in a 22' boat. I've run into some pretty snotty water on Lake Erie. Solid fours once and I stuffed it twice but wasn't going fast. Another time I had to idle almost the entire way to the Detroit River in honest 6-8s. That time was cold, wet and no fun. Good luck finding a cat. Might want to price out insurance first.

Thanks for all the input guys, gonna dump this sweet protouring 67 Camaro and make room for a new toy, guess it's gonna be a 32B or maybe a 36 spectre. Looks like there is some stuff out there, saw a 300xs powered 32 B as well (cheap maintenance) I really am not after high maintenance stuff ie big HP stuff. Summers here are short and no time for down time.
|
Whats up w the 67?

1967 pro-touring Camaro, silver Ls2 with 4l80e 12 bolt. Mini tubbed g-link rear suspension, ridetech front. TMI seats 2012 camaro center counsel. Custom wheels 275/345. Very nice driver dyno'd out 410 to the wheels. Still a little left. Everything new, approximately 1000 miles on build. Vintage air too. Would consider trade or partial. Dunno how to post pics from phone.
