Shane
I have to agree with you on how cats handle rough better than bigger V s. most cat owners say the same thing. I went for a ride in a baby 23' tunnel and the ride was awesome. I would own a cat in a minute, just cant convince the wife that cats are the way to go. ( She has the no cabin excuse going,) and cant afford a big cat to get the cabin. COME ON LOTTERY! :D ;)

Gary,

1000 Islands, with all due respect, I had a driver that had no poker run experience and no cat experience and no high speed experience. Of course I will take it easy. Miller is a great guy and did a fantastic job for his first time, but I was not going to put him, me, my boat or other people at risk for no reason. I see your point from your perspective at the 1000 Islands, but just wait for that first ride and I am sure you will be convinced!

No offense taken my friend. Remember, I can have an intelligent conversation in which I disagree with my counterpart and not get mad. Why? Because I am right of course!;) Seriously though, I enjoy a good debate once in a while.

Hope to see you soon my friend and do some ridin' this winter.

GRH 10-11-2002 01:33 PM

SHANE - Oh... now you want to race snowmobiles too!:D

Competition & Competitors.... aren't they Great!

;)

Shane 10-11-2002 01:34 PM

Race sleds? You have a nursing home on skii's! I will grant you that your boat is AWESOME! But a TWO UP?:p  mmmuuwahahahahahaha:D ;)

GRH 10-11-2002 01:49 PM

SHANE - Careful now... you've never seen that nursing home have you..... remember .... I cheat;)

EvilTwin 10-11-2002 02:09 PM

Shane, I have a little twin that you could play up against.:p

Provided we even have snow! Bring the yamaha up and play.

ET

Shane 10-11-2002 02:11 PM

Don't worry ET, if we have a good winter this year we will defintiely make up and play! Doesn't look good fro tomorrow. In fact, I am not even gonna go to the lake on account of the weather. Gonna winterize the Formula Sunday.

EvilTwin 10-11-2002 02:21 PM

Mine is being winterized this weekend. I am also studding my fathers ZR this weekend. The change of seasons lets you look forward to the next boating or snowmobiling season.

Hustler Talon Cat

I was at the NYC boat show last weekend, and heard one of the funniest comments about the Hustler Talon Cat.

I can't say who made the comment, cause he is a reputable boat builder. But this is what he said:

"That Cat is a piece of crap, what is that cabin behind the cockpit for? I bet thats where the mechanic sleeps?"

I was rolling on the floor laughing! I think its a nice boat, but I want something with a higher freeboard.

Shane 10-11-2002 02:43 PM

Panther,

Let me guess, that reputable builder is from Long Island, and is short with white hair?

BODYSHOT1 10-11-2002 02:46 PM

Shane,

That description sounds about right...;)

mr_velocity 10-11-2002 02:51 PM

hey, even I know who that is....

Panther 10-11-2002 02:58 PM

....I was out on a 33 Eliminator two weekends ago..... the 1st time was in a 31(?) Eliminator w/500HP's 5 people+95 mph....
this trip on the 33 (under propped-waiting on new lab props) we ran 110 with 6 people and it felt real fine (except for the wind!!), until we started to turn slowly to the left (slowed the boat to 55-60 gps speedo) and you could feel the inside start to lift !! That is scary for a "V" guy..... I like 80-85 in my Formula/solid as a rock.... the CAT runs great....in a straight line!! Now don't tell me "it's safe and turns better than a v hull, as I have seem too many "rollovers" of cats in the race films. (even on OSO cuts). I'll keep my V's and keep everything - in the boat, thank you!!:D
I bet I get a lot of flack out of that remark!! That's ok, I can take it!!;)

mr_velocity 10-11-2002 03:15 PM

I've have seen a lot of V bottoms spin out too. A hooked up cat will out turn a V bottom any day.

EXACTLY! Especially a STEPPED vee. If you know how to run a cat, it will all around out perform a vee. No offense intended. Remember I have a vee as well as a cat. Furthermore, the inside lifting as you referred to is a function of the manufacturer. If you notice in a race or ride in a Skater, if trimmed correctly and operated correctly through a turn it will actually lean in like a vee.

I will leave the opening of the envelope to you my man. Who better to reveal the identity than an owner of one of his boats? Did I say that?:o

Panther 10-11-2002 03:31 PM

Can't use the name

I can't use anyone's name without their consent. I am sure he would consent, but I can't just go rattleing off names. He is a good guy, and I am sure he wouldn't his name posted without knowing.

Gary, You're right. What was it John was saying about his first test run on the OL? He told me they were doing about 95 mph and he went to go make a turn and they grabbed his arm and said what are you doing?

He said something like, I can turn my Cat at over 100mph, why can't I turn this thing at 95?

blown formula 10-11-2002 04:02 PM

I knew this would start!! What fun!!!!!:D

Quiet Storm 10-11-2002 06:43 PM

I saw that 32' Skater. Great looking boat. The 502 efi's would be fine for me and when I got board, Whipples are the answer. First I have drive one to see if what these guys say is true.

Shane
Since I sort of started this race challenge you got into with my question about cats. If you have an empty seat when you race, I'd like to fill it...:D I think:eek:

Quiet Storm 10-11-2002 11:46 PM

OK no reply. I'm leaving for Canada in the morning. If I can't find a computer when I'm there, I'll catch up with this next week. This has been fun and I've learned allot about cats and the people that own them.

24 Skater

I joined the club this spring when I bought my first Skater. I always dreamed of owning one, so did my WIFE!!! We had a Baja, it was OK. I still have a small tunnel that I completely restored from the ground up, it was entirely rotted out, so I got to learn about the construction of boats when doing this project. I have crawled all over the inside of many boats, some other cats too, but when I got the chance to pick apart a Skater, when I was looking to buy mine, I crawled up into the front, under the dash, all over. The boat is 15 years old and looked better structually than the 99 model 40 hour old Baja I had just sold. The quality and workmanship is second to none.

I totally understood the reputation by that alone.

Then I got to drive it...... I could write a book about that.

I've driven other cats too that don't make the T2x list. There is a difference.

Shane is right-
Since I aquired the boat, it's like I belong to a fraternity, not a snooty, uppity one either.
When trimmed properly at high speeds, the boat leans like a vee when turning. So true.

Shane 10-12-2002 09:09 AM

Quiet Storm,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. We had comapny last night and I had errands to run this morning. You are more than welcome to run with me anytime my OSO friend!

Flyin'Brian,

Welcome to the family my brother!

skaterize 10-14-2002 10:35 AM

Quiet Storm. I have not replied to any of your threads but always love to lend my opinion when it comes to cats. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the Warlock. I know that sometimes a bad experience can ruin a theory, but not all cats are created equally. from all the replys you have gotten im sure you have a game plan. I can promise you that there are cats out there that will impress you. I also know that a larger SKATER can get expensive but there is alternatives. You can always purchase a good used one (skater) or look to some other cats that are great aswell. Jay at SPECTRE has an awesome 30, MOTION makes a new 30+, check them out, a cat is definitely the way to go. Good Luck, Craig

Thanks for the invite. I just found a internet cafe in St. Andrews N.B. Canada is a great country.:D Wild tides here 30'+.

I've been on two cats so far and both times have been in bad conditions. From what I read the Skater is the king of cats and everything else just tries to measure up. Next spring I'll find a Skater to try out in decent conditions. I will probably get hooked too.

Roger
