DVD players are AWSOME!!!!

After looking at my DVD player, in the box, sitting on the floor for 6 months, I finally hooked it up last night. I watched "Time Machine." A good movie. I am astounded by the sound and picture quality versus a VHS tape. Amazing!!!! And the special efects fun you can have is a lot of fun too!!!

Does anyone know of any good offshore DVD's other than the WAY over priced ones I've seen??? Any at the rental stores??

Advantage_Rob 10-10-2002 03:05 PM

If no one takes offense to this, I can take a DVD, Convert it to Video CD (VCD) and copy the VCD a few times then Woila---a new VCD every so often for everyone....

Waterfoul 10-10-2002 04:22 PM

Hey, I got the thing thru an AOL discount deal.....they sent it to me promptly....in MAY!!!! Then all hell broke loose with my boat and I don't watch much t.v. in the summer anyway.....so there it sat, in the box, on the floor all summer. Now it's hooked up!!!

Hyper, what do ya get 80 minutes or so on a disc?
I had trouble getting complete movies on so I scrapped the software. Waiting for a better version.
What software are you using???

PhantomChaos 10-10-2002 06:25 PM

American Hot Boats is selling a new DVD about performance boating on Lake Havasu......really great price, like $20 to $30 or something. It's from the Spring Heatwave Poker Run earlier this year.

Smart Ripper
Flask MPEG ver 5.94--
TmpgENC
Then Nero Burning Rom

actually you can get 70 more on a cd then stated on it because burning an audio cd takes 70 megjust for the cd player to be able to read it.

Hey Foul, your doing better than me dude. I have yet to purchase a DVD player:eek:
I figure if I dont have time to watch TV, what are the chances I am going to watch a movie.

Glad to hear you like it. I've heard great things about them but have never even seen one in action.

Guess I'm stuck in the 80's too:rolleyes:

mika 10-11-2002 12:47 AM

Now I don't feel so bad, I bought a suround sound amp/processor when I bought my last TV and that SOB sat on my floor for quite a few months before I actually hooked it all up (yeah all the speakers sat dormant also:rolleyes: )

Ain't that the truth. But you know it will be easier sneaking the dvd's out of the newsstand than the bulky vhs's.:D :D :D

Iggy 10-11-2002 08:42 AM

Gee, I've had one for three years already and looking to replace it with a newer model.
Cost me 200+ back then and a similar model today goes for 80.
Been working on buying DVD's to replace my VHS tapes. Have over 100 VHS tapes and about 100 DVD's now.

Has anyone found a DVD that doesn't play right or not play at all?
I have.
Sent several of them back to various distributors for replacement.

The unit is a Sony and is good. He is just doing it as a service to people, not to make money. It is a great deal and they are good players.

If you have a older player it could be that it will not read some of the new DVD's. The newer DVD's have multi layer stuff on them and the Lasers can not pick up the info.

I have the same Sony as the one Jeff is selling. I think I even paid 10 bucks more at the local retailer.

It works great on all DVDs. You can't go wrong with a Sony.

Remember, your kids play station will also play DVDs. Not sure about the new ones like Jeffs, but it's worth a try.

Gary Anderson 10-11-2002 09:52 AM

foul
I plan on hooking up my Sony Betamax next week.
Gary

Gary Anderson 10-11-2002 09:57 AM

I just realized, most of you guys on this board are probably not old enough to remember VHS vs Beta.
OMG, I feel really old.
Gary

Audiofn 10-11-2002 11:38 AM

I still have a Beta Player..... So much better then VHS. BUt oh well another marketing mistake by the Japanese.    :p :p

Jolley 10-11-2002 12:34 PM

Hey Audio.... will my play station2 play dvd's as well as a dedicated player? I know it is supposed to play cd's, dvd's, but I don't know if it can play cdvd's? What do you think? Tx. Bill
