Second, it's funny you said that. I've been around here since Jeff started this site in the 90's and I'm absolutely sure I've seen this format used on OSO in the past!
But whatever, it is what it is. Not the end of the world. |

Also saw this in the cp but I don't think it's working..... |
Did anyone see all the news about the Ransomware outbreak "WannaCry" over the past few weeks?
The main reason for this is folks who are 'too used to old systems and don't want to upgrade'. Well, the reason why you HAVE to upgrade is as vulnerabilities are discovered in ANYTHING, you have to "patch" or "upgrade" to the new stuff WITHOUT the vulnerabilities. 1) Remember that IB owns dozens of boards, and they are rolling out the upgrade across the forums of different varieties in time. This isn't their first rodeo, and they are not punishing OSO. 2) Remember that IB actually OWNS the VBB software that owns this site. 3) Remember that if you want OSO to continue, that they MUST upgrade to keep it from falling victim due to vulnerabilities in old code. That's just the way Information Systems and Information Technology works. The colors and how much real estate is used on your browser will bend a change and little bit over time, as IB keeps tweaking. This happens every time an upgrade takes place. Just be patient. The main thing to preserve/maintain is the content; and that's not going anywhere. |
It`s like watching the internet forums die a slow death...... like land lines. Just can`t adapt, every change lose more and more people to FB.
This change is like going back 15 years . Good luck with that . |
Still like ICFKNDEDPPL's avatar's . :cool-smiley-011:

First thing - pretty sure this is permanent until the next update in like 8 years or whatever.

Third, everyone always complains when they change the format or update something. There's pissed off threads about every update since the beginning...Well, maybe not the beginning because the beginning didn't have a forum and was pretty horrible actually LOL. But whatever, it is what it is. Not the end of the world. Here ya go!!! Attachment 567841 |
I feel like I've contracted an avute HIV infection. 😔
|
|
I'm all good with the changes like I said, it's like, "meh", whatever. But it does make me miss the Schuble days. I gotta say, when Steve was running this joint sh!t was rockin. Of course, it could have just been a great time for boating period but damn, this place (and boating in general) was on full tilt.

I love the new site/old site!! It looks like Speedwake from 2005! To be honest, I do like finally being able to use my phone and be able to see only new posts...! It will just take some time getting use to, it always does... No biggie...
Jr. |
I thought most OSO'ers liked "old school" things? :lolhit:

I got that too but at least the first post of every page isn't in a 2 word line
Nice ad in your post.... So this is the first time I have looked at the upgrade without ABP running... HOLY CRAP!!! This is no longer a forum with a couple ads, this is advertising with a couple forum features. As Mr T would say, " I pity the fool who has to look at this site without ABP or something similiar" |

The ads are in the last post on the thread. If you are the current "last post" then you will have an ad there. The next member to post will then have that for a time as well.

Another plus of the message board environment: Try following a discussion on Facebook. Just brutal. Despite this "new" (and awkward, in my opinion) Vbulletin message board interface, it's a whole lot easier to follow than a discussion in social media. |
It's driven by advertising. We tend to forget that the purpose of this site, and the purpose of radio, TV, and all media really, is, always has been, and always will be about $-MONEY-$. ADVERTISING. How do companies get their wares in front of people, and better yet, in front of an audience likely to buy their products. "HOW do I display my stuff to people that watch less and less television every day so they will buy my stuff so I can make money?" Why do you think the carriers have allowed our cell phones to be infected with "HI!! How would you like to make a million dollars in the next ten minutes!!! I'll tell you the secret!" ? MONEY. It would seem that since this is a subscription site, they should spare us from advertising. But like your cell phone that you also pay for, that will never happen. The media makes money from you on your subscription and from the advertisers. The trend in advertsing today is to get more and more into all social media and into your cell phones. Hope you like it.

Totally true, but the main premise is that the new version IS patchable/fixable, whereas the old may not be able to be, or viable to be fixed.

This change is like going back 15 years . Good luck with that . So my post brings us to a 7 page thread, with 4 pages of "LIKE" comments. lol. |

Social media in general, and in the case of offshoreonly.com a shifting/declining (I'll go with shifting) high-performance marine industry, has had an impact on all message board communities. But, and this really does make a difference, OSO is a searchable database with deep archives. In that regard, Facebook and the rest are useless.

I don't do social media - twitters, FB, Snapchat, etc. I'm comfy here |

I also hate this new formate and hope that it goes back to the way it was as I liked the way it was before. I clicked onto the web-site and thought that my computer was screwed up with no warning.

So..whats going to happen here, is that for the next week or two people will complain about the change...IB will promise to pay attention, maybe one or two small tweeks then it will be buisness as usual,... until a couple years go by and the do the next upgrade. Then everybody will complain because it changed and isnt like it is now.
|
Seems like less and less people all the time, then it goes to a new format that looks like its from 2002. Ahh whatever, like ive always said, im here for the boats and the boaters.
|
sure did like the like button, LIKE!
|
Nobody has ever liked when the OSO board format has changed. Everybody hated the last format when it first came out as well.
Members got used the format and life went on. I don't like all the non boating related ads either, but I guess the ads pay the bills and IB is business. |
Steve Shuble please contact ib. and tell them how to run a boating site .
Thank you M.G. |
How do I get to all my pictures to post that were saved here? HMMMM
|
One of the things I liked about OSO over the other boating forums was the ease of use. Did most of my research and socializing in boating community here. That may be done now
|
I thought it was just my computer for some reason.. Glad its not!
|
Where's the "Profile" button to check my last posts? No "like" button, so I guess the notifications for "likes" is useless.
Did I mention I hate change? And I like ICDED's Avatar! I would push the "like button", but....... |
