It all depends on the center console. Beam makes a huge difference. The Cigarette 39 Top Fish has an 8'6" beam, and isn't near as stable as my 39 GTS with a 10' beam. The wider the beam the better it will ride, but I tow it a LOT and I don't want over a 10' beam. I want another loud go fast, but the console isn't going anywhere. If you can't have both, then in my opinion, the CC is the way to go. I've had mine and a 42MTI-V in some snotty water, and both ride great.

BEST OF BOTH ???? Never been on one but looks like a good idea.. :)

I went from a 600hp single IO Pantera to a twin 300 Verado 31 Renegade. The Verados and OB's in general are so operator friendly and no gimble for another weak link. All preventative maintenance is doable without contortions or special tools and winterizing is tilting the engine down to let the water run out and then oil and lower fluid change depending on your maintenance intervals. Verado oil change is 100 and 300 hours. I have a small cuddy to get out of the weather or for the ladies to piss while most classic offshore boats have an under utilized cabin that most boaters never use and just one big waste of space. Same goes of the IO engine compartment. Previous poster shows the 33 Powerplay CC IO. Cool looking boat but that rear lounger is not secure to sit underway. I can cruise with 9 passengers securely seated with grab handles and if so desire run it up over 65 to be respectable. The only regret I have is not going to a performance CC sooner.

room is the #1 thing for us. we went from a 35 Sonic traditional V to a 24 CC O/B and can fit more friends comfortable on that smaller boat then I ever could in the Sonic.
Also easy and style of use in and out. Drop in, fire up, run (wasn't always a sure bet the i/o fired everytime). on return, load, spray down, rinse, flush, park, and go. With the I/O it was all those same steps but add in clean cabin, wax/Polish, and just assure every inch is like new. also lots of sand bars and shallow water area around here that we go too and i can tell you that having and o/b on a Jack plate is amazing and I don't miss having to worry about my heavy ass boats draft height. I will always miss the sound and attention of an I/O vee but have zero plans of ever going back to one. Now looking for a 30' CC is all. There are a few cons... But they are minor. My first con is cabin space. While the 30 Concept is perfect for what we do most of the time, it is a bit cramped when me and the wife spend the night on the boat. The 30s cabin is just big enuff for two to sleep but its tight. This is why I am looking at moving to the 36 eventually. However, I am looking to add a Seadek floor to the cockpit and maybe have a canvas made that will run from the radar arc to the cabin, thus extending the sleeping area (using the cockpit floor). The other down side is they are windy, we boat on the Detroit River and Great Lakes. We usually just wear sweatshirts when under power until July 1st. My 30 Concept handles rough water better then my 26' Velocity did, but that is due to the extended running surface. I am sure most 30' traditional sport boats will ride smoother because the CC is going to be a bit lighter. |

Another positive about our Concept CC is almost everytime we are out, someone compliments us on the boat.

The lack of headroom makes it tough for my wife to use the potti. But, I think the flat deck is part of what makes the boat look cool. The 36 doesn't seem to have much more headroom. And YES, anything not nailed down will blow out of the boat. I lost one of those foam matts that you stand on at the helm. That thing weighed at least 5 lbs. and I still lost it. |
We have never lost anything out of ours. But I am very OCD when it comes to the boat (and most other things). When we get ready to go, I make sure everything is stowed.
We have soent the night on our Concept quite a few times, but it has always been when we are at Put in Bay. There is usually a large intake of "adult drinks" so we usually just crawl in the cabin and pass out. Ours didnt come with a cut-out for a port-potty. But I had a quick chat with Luis at Concept and was told I can cut the hole. So I cut a hole for the port-a-potty and then fiberglasses A "shelf" into the floor for the potty to sit on. It works well for the wife (it only gets used a handful of times). I wiuld like to have the cabin spce of the 36 for thenuse of the benches as a place to his from the weather. But right now, I have our boat exactly the way I want it (with the exception of a few upgrades). Its hard to justify buying a 36 when the 30 does pretty much everything we want.. |
