drain plug storage
Has anyone came up with something for their transom plugs other than throwing them in the glove box? Im trying to find or make a holder for the 3 I have. Thanks!

Mine typically ride on the K-plane. Haven't lost one yet.

Mine have a wire loop. I loop it over the trim lines when I take it out. Drain plug always there when I need it.
|
Mine stay in the door pocket of my tow vehicle, along with the wrench I use to install/remove. If the quality of your roads are like they are around here, I would NOT suggest to put them on the trim tabs or hang by wire loop. ...unless you have an extra set in the door pocket on your tow vehicle! LOL

I Just purchased a 2002 Sunsation 288 Intimidator which the drain plug is on a wire. They really pay attention to details!

I have three plugs. Take them out at the ramp, put them on the console of the truck. Drive 7 miles to my storage shed & put them back in at the shed. Next time down, I'm ready to go. Just my way.

Wire Loop is impossible to lose drain plug. Arrange loop like this http://www.practical-fishing-tips.co...rope-loop3.jpg |

Oh, there you go - I was thinking something closer to laying them on the trim tab.

I have three of them in the door pocket of the truck.

I put them under the cover for the ladder.

Last boat I left the plug in a cup holder right near my ignition switches along with the ring spanner to fit the plug. Every time I launched the boat, I'd see it sitting there so I couldn't forget!

I drop them in an old camera film container....and then put that in the glove box.

I don't recall where I got it but I have a small plastic hub with 1/2 npt threads screwed to the bunk. Keeps it back, I have a system where I take transom satraps off and install plug. Have a 1.5" stainless spring pin thru the square head of the plug to add little leverage to install plug in the boat.
|
I keep an extra one on my dock for my friends that come by screaming they forgot to put their plug in. It is always worth a chuckle.

I keep mine in the prop box- boat's kept on a trailer @ the marina. I pull the prop after each use (keeps some other AH from doing it for me.) Also, I've got CRS so bad, I can't even remember what the letters stand for!

I keep my boat in dri-stack and they just tie a small cotton drawstring bag on the transom and put it in the bag when they pull it out. Port side hanging by trim tab

Have you considered purchasing (in your case 3) plastic couplers - from Lowes or wherever, glue them to a piece of plastic- that could be mounted on your trailer (only a thought) and then when you take the plugs out you screw them into the plugs- when you put the boat in there are there where you left them. I would seriously doubt if vibration would ever loosen them.

ONLY A THOUGHT 3pointstar I have a shop that does custom plastic work, I might have them integrate a few caps and a hook |
I use a 1/2" AN pipe plug because I like the look better. It takes an Allen wrench to install.
Drilled a hole le at the base of my winch going down, wrench fits in there and had an extra loop for a second safety chain (yeah who knows), it was the perfect size, tapped it out and my plug screws into there right below the wrench. Cant forget plug if tow vehicles are switched, and wrench is right there in the winch when you go to unhook if you forget the plug you'll see it. |
I always kept mine, in the seat back pocket of the truck with a wrench. And I keep a spare set in the trailer tool box within an old Swipes container, also with a wrench.
I suppose you could make something nice with either a 3D printer or wood, and actually mount the "receivers" into it that match the threads, as well as a slot for a wrench. You could make this to fit into a cupholder or other. They also make magnetic drain plug wrenches which I kept one of those on the front winch stand. |
I use a STAINLESS plug and had a SS wing nut welded to it, no wrench needed
|
I drilled a small hole and ran a wire through it and hang it in my keys when not installed
|
I have a garboard drain plate screwed to the underside of one of my bunks. When my drain plug comes out, it gets screwed into that. The wrench is bolted to a spring clip and hangs by an eye bolt right next to the drain plug. Everything is right there at the transom waiting for me when I get to the ramp.
