I'll ask the obvious question for those of us that are confused. Why are there two VERY similar Fountains that both happen to be canopied boats with similar paint jobs and the same name?

many teams build a new boat every year or two, or at least they did back then. I would imagine they all were progressions of a teams development building faster and better boats...

She would be a cool piece to have for sure

Inxs had three boats I believe 1 47ft apache and 2 fountains all painted the same. I believe there were two different owners.

The new old inxs apache.

Edit- Looks like you have to fill in the blanks with "***************". There's half a dozen ads on this page and linking to Craig's list is ok, as is linking to every sotw article written but I can't link to an article about a turbine apache...

Edit 2- holy crap, apparently just the word "p0wer b0at nati0n" is censored from the site even when it's not a link.

I think the 43 Scarab "Smokin Joe" is the same caliber/era machine and is a way way better deal as a running boat for about 75-80K

if memory serves me correct , the first was a 47 apache, 2nd was a 47 fountain and 3rd was a 45 fountain and ALL WERE LOUD

im pretty sure they built 3 fountains , this one is a straight bottom, and 2 stepped hulls

Not to mention that back in the day when offshore racing was much more prestigious many purpose-built race boats were given very light lay ups to save on weight and be faster - at the sacrifice of long-term hull integrity. Many boats were retired from racing after a few years because they were simply deemed worn out and no longer safe to take the continued pounding under race conditions. At least that's what Craig Barrie advised me when I was picking his brain when shopping some former race boats. His advice, "While there are exceptions, for the most part just stay away from former race boats."

Which one of the Fountains delaminated during a race?
