A-Bear
My thinking is near yours, especially with how to power them. I am a fan of the 28 Thunder and not just because I own one. The boat does a lot of things very well. Pantera is a very close second, and only second because of freeboard and cabin.
Since we're talking boats that can be made today and supported today, I think I would include the Sutphens.
They are incredible rough water performers from a company that is represented by generations of boat builders.
I do like the looks of the Activator and Joker boats, but have never seen one, so I won't step on my wanger saying good or bad.
One boat that I really like, and don't shoot me for it, is the Howard 28 Bullet. That boat gets tremendous write-ups everytime it's tested, and seems to handle whatever power is tossed in and maintains its good manners, just going faster. The rough water capabilities may or may not be there with the Florida boats, but it sure does look nice! Have you SCOPE boys ever seen one go to Catalina? Just curious............

I kinda laid it out there. If I were buying new and cost was no object,
1.Active Thunder 525efi
2.Pantera 525efi or twin 6.2
3.Superboat 496HO
If cost is a major concideration
1.Superboat 496HO
2.Pantera 525efi or twin 350mags
3.ActiveThunder 525efi
Don't kill me, just my opinion. The Active Thunder and Pantera are bigger(beam) boats and if your buying a performance boat and want to put 4 people gear fuel and do poker runs the Pantera and Active Thunder with deep straight Vs do better with more power. The superboat is longer narrower lighter twinstep is more efficent and does fine with496HO, the downside it not as nice as the ActiveThunder. So if you can afford it get the Thunder or Pantera, if you only have 50-60k and want new go for the Superboat

If cost is no object I'd consider others (like PowerPlay), but cost is an object... if it weren't, we'd be talking about bigger boats.

You know it's funny, I never hear DCB mention anywhere other than on HotBoat. From what they all say, DCB is the best money can buy. ??? I don't know anything about their boats.

not that I give P.B. any credit after calling us Nitwits,, ( I wonder how many of us nitwits are subscribers ?? 1/3 half ??) Anywho, lots of articles about DCB and how well they perform.. I really like the look of their boats.. ( but have not been in one up close )

This nitwit does not subscribe to PB... I have OSO.
Like I said, I hear nothing but rave reviews from the guys on HotBoat. I do hear that DCB boats are TOP dollar, but the resale is right up there.

1. Powerplay, Active Thunder, Pantera all do it real good just different ways. Tie or real close, PP slight edge
Speed if we are talking 28' is real close, bottoms and weight also real close. AT is built lighter but is also bigger.
Superboat is the fastest(with equal HP)
