Distributor gear

Anyone have idea what can cause a gear too go bad on a MSD dist.could the cam be an issue also

SB 06-24-2017 09:22 AM

What is the cam gear material ? What is the distributor gear material ? And yeh, alignment can do it too + it amazes me how many people install distributor's dry.

Also, do you have the o-rings installed on the MSD dist or did you leave them off ?

And checking the depth of gear in relation to. That is very important as well. Just adding info

I was told on the hydrolic roller cams the gear is harder then then one on the distributor. I was told to run a brass or composite gear in the hydrualic roller motors. A marinia out annold thunderbold VI in my brother in laws 97 454 and it wore out the factory gear in 2 seasons. We bought the composite and havent had any issues in 4 years

I had a distributor that was a hair out of round....bent and it caused the distributor gear to be chewed up. Just an FYI

almost all dist gear failure,s are due to using the wrong gear.not all hyd roller cam gears are made from the same metals.

Always amazes me people that have issues and take the time to start a thread don't answer important questions asked to help with the repair.
